Fashion Giveaway!

This month’s fashion giveaway (if you remember last month, I told you to MARC this site to check back) is a MARC JACOBS large quilted tote. It’s brand new and just for you. It’s silver in color with a bit of gold undertone (the picture below is a good representation of the color) and is…

cheap lululemon - One of the best things about yoga is how easily it can be adapted to meet the needs of practically anyone willing to give it a try.

stephanie - even though i am late to this party, the name rachel zoe caught my eye as she is mentioned in a book i am currently reading, called, deluxe: how luxury lost its luster. this book is very fascinating, as it covers the ins and outs of the luxury industry and how its effected by globalization and other factors. i reccommend it to anyone who is into learning more about luxury brands and such.

BLo - A stylish coat – faux fur lined hood, mid thigh lenghth. Maybe in pink!

Jennifer Scott - My #1 Christmas fashion wish is to acquire my first designer hand bag. I’m one of those girls that still doesn’t have a coach or fendi, or LV. I would love to own something that I can be proud to wear around my shoulder.
Your blog is wonderful and you have such elegant taste.
Merry Christmas!

Jen Ulrick - #1 on my list…a new fabulous hairstyle. Clothes, bags, and shoes are fantastic too, but a great haircut provides an enormous amount of self-confidence for weeks!

Sandy - How fun and exciting! The #1 fashion item on my wish list is currently a Pandora necklace; silver with a gold clasp with some yummy glass beads to start off my collection! :)

Sienna - Jessica,
Your blog is fabulous!! You should be styling the new Sex and the City Movie with Pat Field…..
My number one fashion item? Classic Black Chanel Sunglasses…..They’re great for Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter…..
Thank you for always entertaining me with your blog!!!

Meg - This is so thoughtful of you Jessica! I’m actually not interested in being considered for this contest (certainly a beautiful bag, however, a little too large for my tastes!) but I did want to take a moment to tell you that I enjoy reading your blog. I’m a little more fashioned challenged so to speak so it’s fun for me to check back a few times a week to see your daily outfits and fashion/beauty/lifestyle tips. I see that you travel quite a bit so hopefully you’ll have a little time to relax and enjoy the upcoming holiday season! :)

Maribel - love the marc jacobs bag.
lately i am soooo into isabella fiore’s bags. they are so chic and funky. loving this one right now
http://www.isabellafiore.com/Heirloom_Bloom_Austin/pd/np/100/p/1021.html and this one http://www.isabellafiore.com/Live_to_Love_Jeni/pd/np/100/p/1004.html.
: )

Pam - A Milly snowflake print, funnel neck mini dress for a different spin on the traditional holiday party dress. A pair of Jimmy Choo tall black leather boots would compliment the dress in a delightful way ;-)

Jen - I NEED a new baby bag!!! This would make this new mama very very happy, as maternity clothes do NOT :( !
Thanks for the chance, Jessica!

Ana - Omg!!!Your so kind :) the #1 fashion nitem on my wish list is this dress by Betsey Johnson: http://www.betseyjohnson.com/Evening_Grace_Dress/pd/np/1140/p/3420.html

Danielle - What a killer giveaway! My #1 fantasy fashion item is a classic Chanel suit. How can you ever go wrong with that?? My #1 real life (as in, something I actually have a chance of getting, LOL) are the grey Lola cut Lucky jeans. Everyone in Atlanta is wearing their grey jeans and they look so cute.
So psyched about the contest! Thanks!
Danielle

Kelly Bryan - My number one isn’t super specific…just something I can feel confident and sexy in while juggling my job, baby girl and four year old ball of energy . Something fashionably practical for a young working mom who refuses to let motherhood land her in jail by the fashion police. Much easier said than done! Any suggestions, Jessica?

Julie Coryell - I’m really wanting a great pair of boots that are comfortable and come up to right below the knee. I’ve recently lost over 50 pounds and am finally getting inspired to dress more fashionable!

ann - A pretty scarf because no matter what or where, you can dress up your outfit. I really like the lime green one from Italian designer, Fabiana.
http://www.fabianafilippi.com
customer review: “Fabiana Filippi has created this luxurious winter scarf. It’s made of Merino wool, silk and cashmere. These are three of my favorite things! It also comes in pale pink. I can wear this with a wool coat, a leather jacket, or alone with a sweater for added funk. This scarf is a signature piece. The feel of it is what sealed the deal for me. It’s so soft. It’s so plush. It’s absolutely a dream come true.”

Mary - Oh my, Jessica! What a fabulous give-away! My number one fashion must have item right now is this coat by Reyes: http://www.shopbop.com/shop/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441807548&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302066271&fm=browse-category-viewall-shopbysize&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181057
It would definitely be a splurge, but it’s so versatile, yet has SO much style and would be a real foundation piece to my wardrobe. I found out last week that I’m the number one candidate for a directorial position I’ve been pursuing, so if I get the position…well, I have to dress the part, right? (Very much trying to justify its purchase.) The Marc Jacobs tote would be the perfect accompanying work tote!

Erin - Hi Jessica…this is so fun! I always love your sense of style, and this bag would be the perfect diaper bag for my soon to be first born. Anyway, on my wish list right now are any pants that fit! At 4 months, things are starting to be snug. I miss my cute seven jeans, so that would be top of the list. Thanks for this fun opportunity!

Amanda - I love anything from JCrew, especally cashmere :)

kribss - #1 item would be to find a cute, stylish right sized purse/tote to hold my nikon and wallet and other stuff. right now i’m using my banana republic bag but once i put my daughters snack in there… you can imagine the state my camera is in.(the petunia pickle bottom bags are looking good)

aimee - the number one item on my list is a coach diaper bag!

Heather - Hi Jessica!
My #1 wish list for Christmas is any sweater from JCrew or a new classic black, fitted coat to wear to work during the winter months in Portland.
Talk to you later.
Heather

Shasta Stairs - Who said anything was simple! My # 1 fashion item is the perfect white summer top. The one that’s this exquisite mix of high fashion with a hippie chic bohemian flair. It’s that easy blouse to throw on while you float through the flea markets on a warm summer day, looking effortlessly chic hidden behind new Burberry shades (my current passion…but not available in Canada – BOO!). All the while knowing it really is just smoke and mirrors! This top is not that simple. This top is not effortlessly chic. It is, in fact, next to impossible to pin down. It’s rare and delicate; the one that truly is a diamond in the rough. It transcends time and style. And at the end of the day it’s quintessentially me!

Mrs. L - #1 fashion wish is a classic white shirt…that doesn’t look like a mans shirt or make me look like a waiter when I’m wearing it with black pants!

Ksea Cantonwine - WOW Jess. What a very nice giveaway.
I’d have to say the #1 thing on my wish list this Christmas is a pair of grey Coach leather boots w/a buckle at the top w/a round toe. Love them!

Lindsey! - The #1 fashion item on my wish list…..an iPhone!!!! It’s considered an accessory, right????? I want one sooooooo bad!! I’m obsessed with all things Apple :)

Nichole - Love the blog Jessica!!! How about Jessica does style TV?

Thanks for your daily dose.

Lisa - My #1 fashion wish list is a new pair of sexy, high-heeled boots. Great blog, btw.

Rebekah - My #1 fashion item on my wish list would be a houndstooth black and white 3/4 length coat

http://www.ruehl.com/ruh/index.html
Thanks for the contest! I love checking in on your virtual closet.

Katie - Jessica,
I found your blog awhile back and have been loving the daily fashion inspiration, I come back often to see what the look of the day is. What’s on my wishlist? I just found a pair of short Coach boots with a buckle on the side, I guess I couldn’t wait until Christmas because I have them on right now. Oh well.

Laura - Right now, the #1 item on my wish list would have to be a fabulous party dress for new year’s eve.
This is an amazing giveaway…thanks so much for doing it!

Stephanie Matlack - Cool colob combinations. I am loving everything chocolate brown and orange right now. No matter what it is – I love those colors together especially since our weather here has been so grey and cold. It’s a nice pick me up with a pop of orange.
Cool website. Love the daily fashions.
Stephanie

Jessica - Hi Alexandra,
Here’s one of my favorite pair of skinny jeans right now:

They’re especially delightful with the inside ankle zipper. Cute in boots or unzipped over some amazing shoes.
And I love these high-rise Sevens:

Just wanted to share some of my wish list items…

3. a great pair of jeans – any suggestions??
Have a great weekend!
Alexandra

Karol - Always enjoy your inspiring images of fashion and style on your blog. Hmmm…my #1 fashion item on my wish list is a 3/4 length jacket. I think they are so cute and fresh. Thanks for offering such a cool giveaway.

Andrea - HI,
I just started a new job this week, and have to upgrade my whole wardrobe! So, my wish list is pretty long.I’d say the #1 item though, is a pair of shoes that are comfortable enough for the walk to the office, but still look good around the office. Oh, and a cute dress for the office Christmas party next week.
Your blog is great.

Amy - Every time you do a give away, I’m amazed at how many people comment! Wow, I guess I’m guilty of being a long time reader & not commenting very often, so this is fun to read everyones #1 fashion item on their wish list.
Currently, I’d have to say I need an amazing pair of black boots. Shoes can make or break an outfit & although some may not agree, mine need to be comfortable enough to walk in! Not walk around the city comfortable, but function in my daily life comfortable (around the office, run an errand here or there, or for a night out without screaming feet).

Jessica - Jen,
Here’s a link to some great long gloves in suede, leather, and cashmere: http://www.bananarepublic.com/browse/category.do?cid=13442 Your grandmother’s coat sounds amazing!
Cheers!
Jessica

Leslie Jordan - Your blog is so fun! You have amazing taste. My wish for Christmas is a new trendy laptop bag. Currently, I go back and forth to work with a very clunky black case. Thanks for all of the inspiration! Happy holidays!

Jen - I have a beautiful black and white houndstooth check light wool coat with 3/4 length sleeves and large ivory-colored buttons that belonged to my grandmother. It’s in nearly perfect condition and I love to wear it! My #1 fashion wish is long black leather gloves to go with it. It’s easy enough to find wrist-length gloves, but where does one find the long elegant gloves that fashionable women in the 50s and 60s always seem to have on hand?

Kyra - Hi Jessica… Last giveaway, I didn’t complete my entry. This time, I am making sure that I add all info needed to be considered. :) My #1 this year will be to find a long black coat. I desperately need one and can never find one that I like enough to buy. I also need to buy a few new pairs of Sunglasses. Durable ones that will last more than a few weeks. MN winter’s bring the brightest snow, and there is 6-10 inches in our local forecast. Have a super weekend !

christa - number one on my fashion wish list is a new white empire waist coat for the cold weather. there are so many beautiful looking ones out there but I just cant seem to spend money on myself when christmas is right around the corner. I have a birthday coming up soon, so maybe if I get some birthday money I could splurge a little. :)
thanks for the cute blog. love the todays fashion choice!!

Amy - I love reading your blog and am living vicariously thorough you and your travels and fashion :) As a mom of 2 boys, I don’t have a ton of fashion going on for myself… but I am asking Santa for a nice silver ball Tiffany bracelet…. loving layering lately and wearing my dark jeans (need a new pair though- a smaller size!) Amy

islandjen - hmmm…right now number one on my wish list is the “perfect brown bag” and I’m leaning towards Coach. But just not any brown bag…it has to be the right shape and shade of brown, and I want a funky interior fabric to boot.

Gwen - Oh! Didn’t even notice #1 fashion item comment! Mine would actually be anything new in a smaller size! Ha! Just lost a good amount of weight (Haven’t weighed myself. Found that’s the key! Numbers don’t mean much! It’s how you feel in your clothes!)
Gwen

Gwen - I would definitely agree! She has worked hard and been very influential on styling today. Good to know a good review! Thanks! Must read!
Gwen

Erica Hettwer - Hmmm, good question. I’ve got a few things on my fashion plate right now. I would like to find a nice chocolate brown Coach purse with nickel accents and a cute coat or two with long enough sleeves for my ridiculously long arms. But, like Barbra posted above, I’d love to find a pair of black boots that don’t bunch at the ankle, are slim enough for my skinny, little calves and actually reach my knees!!!
Erica :D

Heidi Y - Love this bag!! Thanks for doing a great giveaway!

darci - Jeans that fit like a glove!!!

sara - Hi Jessica…
What a great giveaway! Love the bag! I currently have a 1 week old daughter so my #1 item on the fashion wish list is a Burberry diaper bag. (Unless you count losing baby weight as an item on the wish list!) Ella’s #1 wish list item is the Barney’s Lion you mentioned the other day!
Thanks for doing this!Sara

Jessica Fulkerson - What a great bag- that is so generous of you!!!
My lust-worthy item this season has been the Christian Louboutin Lady Gres platform peep-toe heels. The pewter is hot but I adore the green just because it is so different! [http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446162323&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574492703944&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395222441&bmUID=1186858327085]
Most would wear it with a cocktail dress or fancier attire but I’d like to rock them with gray skinny jeans and a graphic black / gray tunic top.
And yeah, that is #1 on my “dream” wish list, not “actually going to go out and shop for it” wish list ;)

andie - oh man i love marc jacobs! my fashion wishlist is simple. I am wanting simple silver ball earings and matching bracelet from Tiffany’s!

Megan Gerrity - My number one fashion item would be a long black coat with a removable faux fur fluffy collar. My friend had one a few years ago and it was perfect in everyway. Does fitting into a size smaller jean count?

Barbara - Hi! I would love to find black knee length boots that actually go up to my knees. I’m 6′ tall and am finding it virtually impossible. Know of any? Thanks for the giveaway, I enjoy your fashion posts!

Jennie - Hello Jessica!
I just found your blog the other day. How fun! What a wonderful give-away. This bag looks wonderful! Big enough to fit all my necessities, plus all the random stuff that my 3 kiddos throw in my bag! I’m currently reading Nina Garcia’s style book, and Rachel’s was next on my list. Thanks so much!

Kristen - Wow Jessica this is a very generous giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity! Right now on my fashion wish list is a good pair dark jeans made for a plus-size, curvier woman…something classic to dress up or down.
Kristen :-)

Greta Puckett - Wow! You are so nice! I love reading your blog as well – found you through Ali’s blog. I see on your list of travels you are coming to OKC soon – I can give you some good boutiques to shop in if you want (I live here). And, if you want to visit the inside of the Memorial I might be able to help you get in at another time if your schedules don’t allow you to get in (I read your previous blog about not getting inside). They used to be a client of mine – I work at an ad agency.
Anyway – this sounds silly but I discovered this morning I am in desperate need of a new black fitted (TALL) button-up shirt! So it is on the list.. as soon as I can get to J.Crew.com. Long comment! Sorry!

Jessica - Hi Gwen,
I really enjoyed Rachel Zoe’s book. It’s inspiring and I think she’s a delightful person. She worked her way to where she is, which I respect and admire. Glad you brought her book up, I’m going to include a copy of her book with the giveaway!
Thanks for visiting!

Jaclyn Venter - HI Jessica! This bag is so so beautiful. I would love to have a new handbag, yesterday while I was sitting in traffic, a man stole my handbag that was next to me out of my hand through my vehicle window! I live in South Africa and crimes like these are so common! I have no handbag, no purse, no credit cards, ID documentation nor my favourite starbucks bubblegum holder. My Mac makeup was stolen and i am left with shock and heartsoar. I would love this bag, it will fit with our summer and I could use it everyday for work with my laptop and for my scrapbooking supplies!! thank you once again for this great gift! Your’e one fantastic girl!

Gwen - Crazy cool! How exciting! Fun bag! Just in time to fill it full of fun holiday goodies! Or just strut with it while holiday shopping! Ha!
Also waiting for a review on Rachel Zoe’s book! You’ll have to let us know how it is!
Gwen

Amy - Wow, that’s a gorgeous bag. I’m wearing my silver ballet flats today, they make me smile. #1 on my wish list is a pair of black boots.

tammy t - Beautiful! Right now, on my list has been a silver handbag, no lie. And since the shopping is a little sad here in Bellingham I have been waiting until I can get to Seattle to pick one up.
My all time number one would have to be a Botkier bag. Or after reading her book, a Wek1933 bag by Alek Weg, a beautiful woman inside and out!
tammy

Josefina - Hi Jessica! I enjoy coming over to your blog to check up where you are traveling to and what latest fashion statement you are making. I really love your style. The number one item currently on my fashion list, and I hope you can consider it one, is finding the perfect glasses. I’ve had the same black framed glasses for the last 6 years, and everyone, including me, thinks it’s time to upgrade. You would agree too if you saw them, that is for sure!
Awesome bag by the way!
Josefina

Jeanette - Oh my goodness…a Marc Jacobs bag! The #1 fashion item on my wish list is a Chanel handbag.

Emilio Pucci.

Something about prints that are so recognizable (like Missoni) have always been intriguing to me. And for that reason, I’ve had a special fascination with all things Pucci lately. I’m looking at vintage pieces. And always loving the color combinations. They’re fun. And they’re beautiful. And they’re elegant. "Prints with panache; prints that defined the…

Jessica - Hi Amy,
Wow – two amazing sites. I have not been to Impulse. But definitely will on my next visit. And I love the Pike/Pine blog. It reminds me a lot of this one http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/
Have a great day!
Jessica

Amy - Hi Jessica, just doing some on-line shopping/browsing before work this morning and wondered if you’ve ever been here when you’re in town? http://impulseseattle.com/index.html
For some reason the clothes made me think of you. And also, here’s another fun local site, you’ve probably heard of it since the Seattle Times picked it up and runs it on Sundays, but I just love the idea of it:
http://pikepine.com/
Have a good day,
Amy

Ksea Cantonwine - I totally agree. Pucci and Chanel (the quilted bags and the tweed suits) stand the test of time.

Wrappings.

One of my most favorite (if not THE favorite) parts of the holiday season is gift wrapping. My brother used to pay me to wrap the presents he bought for others. I love picking out the paper and a cute corresponding ribbon and tag. This year, I’ve found several great papers at The Container Store…

Karena Farmer - Better late than never…my fav tights have taken me through working for CHANEL, so they have remained a staple in my wardrobe.
DKNY Opaque…I do not reccomend the super control, they can be uncomfortable. Regular control top or not are perfect. They hold up great, I have even put them in the dryer on accident, the sheen is minimal, therefore giving a true opaque look!
-Karena

Grace Palazzolo - What great paper I love it! Thanks for the heads up! Grace

Amy - That toile paper is gorgeous! As for opaque tights, I’m a huge fan of DKNY hosiery, but surprisingly I picked up a pair from Vera Wang, from her new line at Kohls, and was happy with the opaque-factor (opaquity? opaqueness?) along with the comfort.

Jeanette - Oh my gosh, I’ve never heard of two sided tights. Leave it to Spanx to produce unique accessories for us gals.
And I love the link you provided with the toile giftwrap. I plan to order some for the holidays.
Also, I visited my sister in Florida over the holidays where I was excited to see a certain book sitting on their coffee table…The Black Book. ;)

Jessica - Hi Melanie,
I scooped up some of the new Martha stuff at Michaels too. Yes, the little baked goods boxes and tissue are delightful! I love her stuff. Always have, always will.
Enjoy!
jessica

tammy t - One of my favorites too, I love wrapping gifts! My MIL just passed on some vintage papers that I am loving using.
My favorite tights have always been DKNY, but maybe you are looking for something even heavier. Those Spanx look awesome, noticed them in Nordstroms. Might have to snag a pair after that recomendation.
Love your blog!
t

Melanie - Have you seen all the cool stuff Martha Stewart has come out with for Michaels? She has some very pretty wrapping paper (found some on clearance over the weekend), stylish stuff to package up baked goods and all the tags and ribbons to match. I love it!

Jessica - Hi Tiffany!
How cool. I’ve never heard of double-sided tights.
Thanks for the link.
Keep in touch!
Jessica

Ksea Cantonwine - I am planning on getting Spanx, too. With the way I’ve been eating the past 2 months, I need the extra firming in the midriff area. LOL!

Tiff - My link didn’t come thru! Here they are on Amazon.com, cutest name too–two timing tights: http://www.amazon.com/Spanx-Tight-End-pantyhose-Timing-Reversible/dp/B0002TBQPW
They are more opaque on me than in this photo. Have a great week!!

Tiff - Spanx two-sided tights. I ripped my fav opaque pair in Chicago a few months back, and picked these up at Bloomingdale’s. They come in black/grey duo or brown/black. They are SUPER cheap, offer the smooth lines Spanx offers that we all love, and save space for travels!
Just found you online, hope you are well. :)

iman - Ms. Pacman is a great game.I grew up with that same table arcade in our house.
Thanks for the memories.

Jessica - Hi Julie,
Jeffrey and I met in Seattle (where I grew up) when he was giving a seminar on sales and personal development. My former boss, Janice (an incredible woman), took me to the seminar to learn and be inspired – and Jeffrey and I clicked instantly. Several months later, I moved to Charlotte to work for his company. And the rest is history!
Thanks for asking,
Jessica

julie - hi, this is none of my business, but how did you guys meet? it seems like you have a great relationship.

Gwen - Love the outfit today! Those pants are awesome!!! Tailored perfectly!

Amy - Ms. PacMan is one of the very few games I play on our Xbox, cute photo! Congratulations on the good news about becoming an aunt again. And lastly, loving the outfit from 11/24. That went into my “ideas and inspiration” file!

Jessica - Ksea,
How funny! Don’t be fooled by the picture – there was a lot of glass banging and extreme jerking to the handle. I got to the highest fruit level too! It was my first time ever. So fun.
Jessica

Ksea Cantonwine - OMG! I was at a pizza place called Dirty Dave’s here in Olympia having dinner w/my sister and her boyfriend and they had an stand up Ms Pac Man! I couldn’t resist. I couldn’t believe that I did REALLY well on one game. I got up to the last fruit (level)! You guys look a little more relaxed than I was, though. I was REALLY jerking that handle. I guess I was totally into it. LOL!!! Love that game!

Baby shopping.

It's delightful shopping for baby items! I've been browsing several sights in search of great gifts after the Thanksgiving announcement from my brother John and his wife Liz that a new McDougall clan member is on the way! Here's a couple of my current favorites. I've liked the Petunia Pickle Bottom…

Liz - We love that you are thinking of the new baby Jessica – you are a very very speical auunt! On the high fashion vs. charity front…interesting debate. My vote is to chose fewer high-end, quality items. Sometimes cheaper can be as cute, but because of its quality, ends up in the landfill quite a bit sooner. I’ve had the same Dooney and Bourke wallet for 9 years now – OK, I’m a bad example – I really do need a new wallet, just can’t let go. :) Love you!

alexandra - Hi Jessica,
Loving the baby goodies you’ve shown. The lion is especially adorable and the Petunia Pickle Bottom bag is fabulous – I have always wanted one. I know a university-girl who uses one as her school book-bag!! I might have to splurge on one.
And just for the record… I think we can all pick our ‘splurges’ and still make sure that we donate our time and money to the many very worthy causes in the world.
Peace,
A.

NurseNell - The diaper bags are cute but so are the ones at Target, and they cost a lot less. Petunia Pickle bags are too expensive. Think how many children in the 3rd world could be fed on the money.

Ksea Cantonwine - Simons hair is soo long! Beautiful photos! I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Jeanette - Those are lovely photos. I love how it captures what surrounds you on a special day like today. And the reality of the day is quite funny.
Happy Thanksgiving. :)

Hello Ocean.

Just a little peek of the view out the window here at my parents. This will be the perfect place to celebrate Thanksgiving. Looking around at all the natural beauty here on the coast is the ultimate reminder of all we have in this world to be thankful for.Found an interesting ad in Harper’s Bazaar…

Jessica Fulkerson - Hi there- I found your blog from Ali’s site awhile ago and always like your fashion posts. My take:
I am more on the fence about brands and stores such as Urban Outfitters, Target, and Forever 21 recreating designs with a similar look to the designer goods.
For example, this Urban bag [http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp;jsessionid=C4F14757EAD9B0A409B11F3BAC725A74.app13-node6?itemdescription=true&itemCount=60&id=13611777&parentid=W_ACC_BAGS&sortProperties=+product.marketingPriority,-product.startDate&navCount=14&navAction=poppush&color=] and its likeness to the Botkier Bianca. Or, this Urban bag [http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp;jsessionid=C4F14757EAD9B0A409B11F3BAC725A74.app13-node6?itemdescription=true&itemCount=60&id=13913454&parentid=W_ACC_BAGS&sortProperties=+product.marketingPriority,-product.startDate&navCount=14&navAction=poppush&color=] and this Forever 21 bag [http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=handbags&product%5Fid=1043963855&Page=1] and their likeness to the Marc Jacobs Stam. Or this Forever 21 bag [http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=handbags&product%5Fid=1043969660&Page=all], and it’s likeness to the YSL Downtown…
And so on, and so on…
What I *despise* is the blatant knock-offs which attempt to disguise themselves as the actual designer goods. The bags which actually duplicate the LV monogrammed design or which sew on fake labels. To me, NOTHING is tackier than carrying one of these. It just reeks with desperation as well as disregard for the art form of fashion. If you can’t afford it, just opt for a great bag at a lower price. Add in the dubious nature of their origin and the illegal activities which their profit might support and you just have no reason left to go with them.

NurseNell - Given that design purses and items cost an obscene amount of money people are going to buy imitation products. And do we know that the producers of the real items don’t use child labor? If designer products cost a reasonable amount of money there would be no need of imitation products so these designers are just as much to blame for the exploitation of children in 3rd world countries.
As for crocodile and alligator skins used, yuck. Leave them in the swamps and bayous.

tami - i know nothing of fashion but i enjoyed reading that article.
can you answer this question-are these fake bags and things sold in “real” stores like macy’s or discount dept. stores like tj maxx or are they just sold on the streets….i mean do people buy these fake bags KNOWING they are real?
as for the branding of the items, for so long people have copied each others work, music, fashion, art, i am not saying it is right but it’s just something that has happened for so long…..
thanks for the article. child labor is so complicated.

tammy t - So against these. I have found my opinion has grown stronger the more I learn about them.
And as far as wanting an alternative, there are plenty of beautiful, less expensive bags that aren’t knock-offs.
tammy t

Stephanie Bates - I don’t know how I feel about this topic. On one hand, these counterfeit goods are the only way some families survive. Although I disagree with forced child labor, many years ago it was simply a way of life for children to work on farms and such. And, although the “craftsmanship” of some designer good is the issue of the price, should a Dior bag cost $18,000 – more than my car and more than some people make in a year?
On the other hand, it takes lots of time to design all of these bags, etc, that are being copied, and designers should be able to make products that aren’t being copied and sold for a mere fraction of the price.
Sometimes I think that if our society wasn’t so obsessed with obtaining “designer” good it wouldn’t even matter.

Dawn Witt - It is very sad that the fake bags may have been made by Children, but so are t-shirts from Kmart…. It is a problem accross the board, just ask Kathy Lee !;-)
I hate these fake bags !! I dont think they should be able to be made to look like a designers. Period. Not to mention it really makes me angry that I bust my butt to be able to afford a new $650.00 Coach bag, only to have someone in line at the movies or somewhere ask me “Is that real?!??!” It’s so rude I have to bite my tounge to keep from asking “Yes, are your boobs?”

Jenn - Trafficking counterfeit goods supports organized crime and terrorism. While child labor of any sort, in any location is an atrocity, providing untraceable funds to crime syndicates who then murder innocent people is an abominable offense.
Several years ago, Kate Spade’s attorney, Barbara Kolsun, was actively bringing suit against any and all counterfeiters brought to her attention. If the Spade legal team was made aware of copyright infringement at one of those despicable home purse parties, they would prosecute the same as they would if they found a factory full of knock-offs. I remember thinking at the time, it would help these designers immensely if the laws were stricter when it came to design infringement.
Thanks for sharing the article. I have rarely picked up Bazaar since Liz Tilberis untimely passing. It had become quite stagnant, perhaps it is time to give it another chance.

alexandra - Oh dear, I literally feel sick and I haven’t even read the whole article yet… I went to a knock-off party at a neighbour’s house last month and bought a Coach wallet and some Chanel sunglasses etc.. I never thought that the items would have been made by children – didn’t even think about who would have made them. So dreadfully sorry that I supported this in any way.
Thanks for the heads-up. I can live without the ‘bling’ or save-up for the real-thing.
A.

ann - I don’t have a problem with copy cats. Anyone who can afford the $2500 bag will buy it. Those of us who can’t, will never buy it. So why shouldn’t there be an affordable alternative?????? Low income people like fashion too!

Cheryl - Friends don’t let friends buy counterfeit. Thanks for the timely reminder.

Amy - Don’t even get me started on the whole “Goach” bags. It’s one thing to compliment someone by imitation, but it’s another to downright copy and sell for profit.

Portland.

Greetings from rainy Portland, Oregon – a city visit on the way down to my parents Southern Oregon Coast home for Thanksgiving. Jeffrey and I spent the last night in Portland’s Pearl District. What a delightful area! I got to visit Lululemon, my favorite athletic wear store. And Jeffrey got to spend several hours in…

Ksea Cantonwine - OOPS! The wellies I mentioned before are not Kooba.. the brand is Chooka. =) They’re too cute!

Amy - Thanks so much for the info and the link, Jessica. I’m off to do some shopping! Happy Thanksgiving!

Jessica - Hi Amy,
I found the sweater at Anthropologie. It’s Sparrow. And it also comes in red and cream. Delightful!
Here’s the link: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=71700&navAction=jump&search=true
Thanks for visiting!
Jessica

Amy - Hi Jessica, would you mind sharing where the sweater in the 11/19/07 fashion choice photo is from? Thanks!

Claudia - I also can’t wait for Whole Foods to get to Charlotte, Jessica. :)

Ksea Cantonwine - Glad to see you made it to Oregon safe and sound. Enjoy the rainy NW weather! Also thinking about buying some Kooba wellies soon. They have some great designs!
