Bye, bye Bahamas. I’m so happy that Jeffrey and I were able to make the trip to join Ali, Chris, and Simon on their spring break vacation. We had several nice dinners together and relaxed at the pool and enjoyed the warm weather.

Monthly Archives: March 2008When lounging beach or poolside, it’s always nice to have an extra rubber band to pull back your hair. I found these hair elastics at J.Crew and decided I could turn my necessary rubber band into a delightful bracelet and still have the rubber band in case I needed it. Real creative and looks really great on you! I bought 1 and never thought about there’s another fun way to wear it! ********/10* Jess! You look fabulous!! xo Hi Jessica, Very cute. Might get myself one! Love the bracelet band idea! I’m wondering what you do to prepare your skin when you are going to a hot climate. Suntanning booth? Spray tan? Tan in a lotion? I would like to go on a trip not feeling self concious of my very white legs after a long Washington state winter, but I don’t really want to add skin damage to my worries! Those are cute. Jessica, I was wondering if you could give me some mascara recommendations. My everyday mascara is Clinique Naturally Glossy, which I love, but I’m looking for something for evening or events with a little more drama and volume but without the clumping. I thought perhaps you’d have some good ideas. Thank you! Love this outfit with the sweater! Hi Jessica! Can I tell you something SO annoying? Your comment section REFUSES to remember my personal information and I have to type it in every single time! AAAAAAAHHHH! It hates me! Oh, quick question…Are there certain people who can or who shouldn’t wear a skirt like that? When I’ve tried similar ones on I always feel like I’m flared out too much, even though I love how it looks on you and the other models I see. My big problem area is my middle, especially my thighs and glutes, though, so could that be why? Or would a skirt like that hide that area? Thank you for posting this! It’s fun seeing something so springy after all that winter. Plus, I love seeing the building of an outfit. I hope you continue doing this!!! Love it!! Urban Outfitters has a ton of delightful items right now – at great prices. I’m loving that I can mix many of their items with things I already have. Here are some of my favorite picks – you’ll see them in my upcoming fashion choices! They also have a great selection of fun sandals. I absolutely love the hat on the bottom! So adorable. And I agree, Urban Outfitters has some great pieces right now. I also agree that you should post how you put your pieces together. I adore that necklace! And I second noell in that I would love to see what you consider your key pieces of your wardrobe and your “process.” You know what I would love, Jessica? I’d love to see you show how you mix and match various pieces. What are your core pieces and how do you mix them up? That would be really fun. love the hat at the bottom. I love this book. For reference. For ideas on how to eat better. For a reality check about your favorite restaurant and grocery store choices. And because the entire book has pictures! I’m intrigued. Off to check it out. Looks like a fun book…I’ll have to check it out. What a delight to have all the family together! awesome portrait. y’all are gorgeous! We missed Jeffrey Happy Easter, Jessica. It is always a delight to see your family and to read your blog. And what a gorgeous group you are. Hope that your life celebration of your grandmother went well~ What a great family photo! Very fun to see everyone. What a beautiful family! You look so much like your mother! You have a beautiful family btw. Photograph by Yanick Dery. Illustration by Jacqueline Bissett. I received this question from Tracy: I’ve recently moved to Chicago, only steps from Michigan Ave, and am just waiting for my new job to start so I can have the needed cash to begin my shopping excursions. I’ve found so many stores here that I could… jessica when you come to chicago, i definitely recommend visiting armitage street. an enjoyable place for shopping and browsing. WOW – that sketch (to go along with the photo) is so cool, Jess! I also pull apart magazines and file them to see if it something I “have” to have! If it still appeals I get myself to the store or shop it online. I’m trying to be an informed shopper and make better decisions about what works for me! And your website has lead to a lot of inspiration! Thank you! When you come to Chicago for your girls weekend, you must check out the Chocolate Bar at the Peninsula Hotel. It’s only open on Friday and Saturday nights, but it is the definition of decadence. Chocolate in every imaginable form and flavor!! Reservations are a must…they are always busy! I think the internet is great for bargain shopping, if you know the sizing of the particular store. The internet versions of stores often give additional discounts off of the clearance price, and I’ve gotten some very good quality pieces that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. Ahhhhh..in some form or another, I am always shopping!! (Much to my husband’s dismay!) Aww, that is my sister! I also peruse a lot on the internet. I look at Ebay for a lot of items (j crew, etc) because I normally have a hard time paying $100 for a merino sweater. LOL! I also like to go to Macy’s, etc when they have sales to find good deals. =) Lots of life reflection going on in my mind. My mom asked me to help piece together a eulogy for my grandma’s funeral this weekend. It’s had me in deep thought of how to best capture the feelings that grandma inspired within me through her presence. It’s pretty difficult to capture and encompass the greatness… Wishing you peace within as you say farewell to your Grandmother. She sounds like such a lovely woman. ¥ All the best to you while you spend time in reflection. And the shoe idea is the best…I think it’s wonderful to find a private yet outward way to remember a loved one. That’s a hard challenge, but from reading your blog over the past couples of months I’ve learned that you excel at conveying your thoughts to paper, something that is very hard for me to do. I love that you are paying homage to your Grandmother in your fashion choice. this is incredibly sweet. i love the idea of the shoes. oh, i am so sorry about your grandma. it’s tough losing grandparents. i love that you are wearing a fun shoe in honour of her. so perfect. I love the idea of a fun shoe as a dedication. Respectful yet memorable at the same time. I 2nd that….cheers to reflection and memories. I have no doubt you will do your grandma and family proud. Cheers … to reflection and memories! Thank you to all who left such kindhearted comments and extended thoughts of sympathy in relation to the passing of my grandmother. I appreciate you! I’m leaving Miami today after a great weekend of relaxtion in South Beach at Delano Hotel, where you quickly learn to always keep your eyes open for the delights that… How freakin’ cool is that! Enjoy! I love nice hotels. You’ve made me add this one to my list of places to visit. Ahhhhhh…The Delano seems amazing. I would quite like to enjoy a glass or three of Moet on one of those beds boasting a view of the stars! And of course I have “If you wanna’ be my lover…” playing in my head for the rest of the day! What fun! Dang! So much fun! You have just added fuel to the fire of wanting to visit the Delano one day. Hope it was an oasis of rest for you! Hi Jessica, When my mom, Pati, was gathering stories from the family and grandkids to read to my grandma as her health has dwindled over the last several weeks, one of the things I mentioned was that my grandma was the only family member I ever wanted to kiss on the lips. Several days after I emailed… Jessica Jessica, I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Grandma. I love that your mom was collecting stories about her…what a treasure for your family. Beautiful tribute to your grandma. I wish you many hugs as you process your loss. So sorry for your loss. What a treasure of a photo to have… xo Beautiful photo and a fabulous story. jessica - Hi Nancy,
I’m happy you asked about magazines. I’ve been jotting down notes for a ‘top 10 fashion magazines’ post for the future. My favorite is Elle. They have the most fashion that’s still real world and not too out there. I often wait to buy Allure – but then am so happy when I do get it because there’s typically several gems within. I tend to read all the main ones each month: Vogue, Glamour, InStyle, and Marie Claire. I don’t have any subscriptions because I travel so much and I can almost always get them when they hit newsstands in the airports. (If I had subscriptions and I saw a new issue in an airport store, I wouldn’t be able to not buy and wait to get home to see what’s new!) But if I was going to get a subscription it would be to the British versions or Elle and Vogue and maybe even Paris Vogue even though I can’t read it. My favorite airports are the ones that carry international magazines – like JFK, Laguardia, and LAX. On the Internet, the fashion section of http://www.nymag.com is excellent. But I am most inspired by images, so I prefer the glossy print of a magazine that I can hold in my hands.
I’d love to hear about your favorite fashion magazine!
Jessica
jessica - Hi Amy,
How funny that you noticed Chris in my first Bahamas post!
Thanks for visiting!
Jessica
Nancy - I’ve really been enjoying your blog for the last few months (since I found it) and I have a question for you: What fashion magazines do you read? Do you subscribe to any, or do you just pick up what appeals to you on a monthly basis? Do you use the Internet for all your inspiration and research or are there print magazines involved too? Thanks!
Jeanette - That is one destination on my list of places to visit.
I must tell you that I love the hair bands in your previous post. I thought they were bracelets when I first saw them in the photo around your arm. Brilliant!!!
tammy t - Glad you all enjoyed what I am sure is a well deserved break! Beautiful photos!

Amy - You know…I was looking at your picture from yesterday and I thought, “That man sitting next to her looks a lot like Chris” (from what I’ve seen on Ali’s blog) and I thought, “Nahhh…I’m seeing things”. Sounds like a fun vacation for all!
Ashley - That vacation sounds so dreamy!! Glad that you had a nice time AND were able to join your sis. What fun.
