Monthly Archives: April 2008Receiving my grandmother’s dress and overcoat has opened my imagination to the world of vintage fashion. I’ve spent most of the morning looking online at all that’s out there. I came across lots of great dresses on Etsy. Here are a few of my favorites: The prices were excellent and I’m looking forward to incorporating… I’m more likely to buy vintage pieces in home decor than clothes, but I wish you the best luck with your finds! Almost every weekend you can find my husband and I at antique malls, estate sales/auctions, and thrift stores. I rarely find good condition vintage clothing there (that’s what ebay is for, I guess!) but I do score tons of jewelry, hats, purses, scarves, and other accessories. So usually rather than using a vintage clothing item and accentuating it with modern pieces, I’m wearing modern clothing and vintage accessories! i found a homemade shirt at the thrift store the other day, i posted a picture on my blog. i do like vintage things, off to check out etsy to see what i can find. being a stay at home mama, i can get away with wearing fun things like this shirt! I admire vintage Etsy dresses from a far, always wondering if the sizes will be true to form. I have purchases a few vintage accessories likes purses and pins. Everytime I take them out on the town, they draw attention. not bad! I’ve admired vintage fashion but have not ventured down that path personally. I’d like to, but like Mary & Jessica, it is time-consuming. Although I love the concept of vintage fashion, I own few pieces. I guess I’ve found it too time consuming, but I suppose if you know or have a great vintage retailer at hand, it makes it so much easier. I would love to photos of how you make these pieces your own! I rarely wear vintage because it is so time consuming to find pieces that actually fit my size, style and price. I adore vintage shoes and accessories, but shoes are hard to find as the further you go back in time, the smaller women’s feet typically were. Therefore it’s hard to find them in my 8-8.5 shoe size. Jeffrey’s brother Josh is in town visiting – and we came up with the brilliant idea of a backyard barbeque. Took time to get everything ready to take outside and turns out there was no gas to get the BBQ going. So we brought the party inside and had an indoor barbeque. It turned out… that pan is great and it comes with a wonderful pinapple upside down cake recipe too. i’m right there with you on the brownie pan. it’s on my list and will be mine when i see it in a store. I miss the driving rain, there is just nothing like a good rainstorm! It only spits here in California. Yes! My parents have that brownie pan, and they always turn out great! Granted, I’m partial to the center, ooey-gooey brownies, but I can still trim off the crunchy edges. What the holy scrud?! I didnt know that kind of pan existed. That is so cool!! The best of both worlds for me. If you get an edge piece you have the crispy sides and the gooey center. Yum! ONLY THE MIDDLE FOR ME Very cool view…would you ever consider posting photos of the inside of your home? I imagine it being very pretty and well decorated. Would love to see it! no edges for me…the center is where I head! The edges are what I don’t take to any event I am headed…so probably, my kids have never had anything but! ( oops!) Hi Sara, Not a big brownie fan…but cool pan! Love that first photo! Is that your window view or a stock photo? That would be great for cornbread, if it were cast iron! I prefer the brownies in the middle. Just as Ksea mentioned in her post, I’m a middle, chewy, mushy kind of girl too. I even prefer limpy french fries. i definitely want one of those pans. my Mom used to make homemade brownies and we would fight over the edges because we both liked that part the best. Ksea, we’d make a good brownie team–I can eat the edges, you can eat the middle. Jessica, definitely a things happen for a reason moment (but I will say, loved the day of sunshine we finally got in Seattle after last weekend’s snow). Not really…. I’m a middle, chewy, mushy kind of girl. That’s an really cool pan, though! Click here for a great reason to take and keep photos of YOU. Thanks Heather. that poster is awesome. thanks jessica! My MIL and her sister had a falling out thirty years ago. When her sister died at age 92, three years ago. Her attorney phoned my MIL to ask what to do with her personal effects. My MIL said, give the money to whatever charity you desire and the rest to the salvation army. He stuttered and said, the photos as well? And my MIL replied, “everything”. Hi Karen Lee, wow! what a find! why would anyone get rid of these!?! That is awe inspiring! It makes me want to start digging out old pictures. Just so cool. Imagine the fun that woman had in her heyday! Received a question from Tammy T that read: I’m going on a family trip to Hawaii and could use your help in planning what to pack! I just did a little spree of shopping at the Gap for some t-shirts, dresses, etc. but could use your help. It’s a trip with my family of four… Thank you for those tips Jessica! I found a hat just like that recently in brown and white strips that is ready to go. And I hugely agree on buying suits in solids rather than prints….I may need to do some last minute shopping… "I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of stars makes me dream." Vincent Van Gogh I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE The glasses are pretty cool but the quote is one I love Great Jacket!!! Love the color. the shirt is so girly…I love that! I also think I need a globe umbrella LOL!!! I love the hat!! super cute outfit! possibly my most favorite outfit – i LOVE your cute, ruffly shirt! Delightful things I’m digging right now: These bracelets that I’ve been admiring for some time, especially after news broke last year that Chanel copied the designer • This book is coming in handy for planning an upcoming girls weekend in Las Vegas • This fun black capelet • The YSL Muse II pocketbook – because… Received a request from Anne that read: I follow your blog and noticed that you have quite a heavy travel schedule (yet you always manage to look so put together and relaxed!) What’s your secret? Do you have luggage suggestions? Any brand or piece that you especially can’t live without? I am finally putting my… Love reading your travel suggestions…timely and hugely helpful! Hi, Jessica .. thanks so much for the link to my laptop bag site – I hope your readers enjoy it! Your tip about traveling with a carry-on is a good one; I do the same thing. Have a small bag with in-flight essentials that I pull out and then stow my carry-on. This is the Diane von Furstenberg American Express commercial that I previously mentioned. I could watch it over and over. She is an incredible inspiration to me. As a woman. As a designer. And as a person. Meeting her clarified that. There’s a 70% off SALE at www.dvf.com starting tomorrow, April 17th at 12PM. A… I thought the same thing when I saw the commercial on TV. There is something so effortlessly regal about her. Just hearing her voice makes you want to go out and conquer the world! Saw that commercial and totally thought of you. It’s great! |

Lauren - My secret to healthy living starts with having a goal. Once I sign up for a run or triathlon, then I plan my training schedule for that event. I also try to drink lots of water, eat healthy and walk my dog at least twice a day! He is spoiled, but it keeps me motivated on days when I dont feel like doing anything!
Brit - Ahh! This is too neat! I’ve been on a mango craze lately and smiled when I read the book title! Looks like a must read!
I’ve been changing to a more raw foods lifestyle and it has been amazing! Yay, good health!
elisa - Skating in at the last minute here but just wanted to jump in because I just did a post on this on my blog-
Lately I have been dragging with the workouts-
You can check out my blog for my list of my most motivating work-out songs. I did a post on this very thing a couple days ago.
A reverse osmosis system is my secret for drinking water- it tastes so yummy and clean.
I am a normal girl, I don’t deprive myself of anything and I love ice cream.
Everything in moderation.
Oh and I second what someone said above about workout wear. I am lucky that my husband works for VS as their new workout wear is incredible. The long yoga pants….. I could wear them every day. So so comfy.
Maeghan - Between my papers/essays/student organizing I don’t really get to do much exercise, but I totally advocate walking around with music that keeps you going. It helps you clear your head and realize that everything will be okay somehow, because it always ends up that way, even when the worst is still ahead. Paddy Casey, The Weepies, and Nickel Creek are my favorites. Thanks for this oppertunity!!!
AmyVC - My healthy living secret? My kids. I want to be here and healthy for them forever and ever.
Water tip: I use a recycled SoBe glass bottle and refill it as soon as it’s empty.
Workout: I walk and do core work daily
Music: 80s
lee - What a lovely little ensemble to give away!
My secret to healthy living is to strive for balance…right now, focusing on finding a balance in my eating habits. I strongly believe in moderation, that it’s okay to eat chocolate or drink a soda if I do so sparingly. I’ve also found that choosing higher-quality foods with higher-quality ingredients allows me to enjoy my favorite treats in smaller quantities because the flavor is stronger/richer/better.
Have a wonderful day! =)
Valerie - My secret is to feel good in the clothes I workout in. If I can start my workout feeling good, then I’m even more motivated the next day. My latest obsession for a workout is Metallica. It gets me pumping!
Heather - I start my day with water! If I drink a couple of glasses while I’m getting ready in the morning it wakes me up AND I drink more throughout the day!
Angela O. - My secret to healthy living is planning ahead. If I don’t plan ahead I just set myself up for faliure. I pack my lunch the night before, get my breakfast ready as much as I can so that when I wake up in the morning I can grab what I have packed and head to work. I used to hate planning and even thinking about food all the time, but I just have to if I want to keep myself on track. So I’ve just accepted it and now it’s become so automatic that I don’t think about it nearly as much as I used to.
I’ve also started walking at our local zoo after work. It’s huge and it’s very hilly and a good workout. Plus I feel safe there–there are always plenty of people around. I take my Ipod and water and I’m off! My workout music of choice is mostly R&B.
Barb N. - Stress is one of my biggest obstacles to feeling healthy. The best trick I have to beat it is laughter.
Michelle - What an awesome and inspiring give away! Thank you!
My little secret is to add a bit of flavor to my water. Sometimes a hint of vanilla bean or sometimes a spritz of zesty citrus.
Thanks again!
m
Nancy - My healthy living secret is to beware emotional eating. I have to ask myself every time I reach for food, “Am I eating this because I’m hungry or for other reasons?”
Have a fabulous day!
Kim - My healthy living secret is…workout. It’s so easy to forget how great you feel after a 30 minute cardio session. When you forget how great it feels, that is when you want to stop doing! Do keep it up…even if you can only fit in 20 minutes one day!
Tiffany - what a lovely gift for someone to win… hopefully me? lord knows i could use some help *wink*
my secret? i always put a straw into my waterbottle. makes it so much easier to get in my water for the day!!
Thanks Jessica, your fab as always.
Leanne - I try to live healthy by exercising at least five times a week and planning more outdoor activities with my children. I have also recently given up all fast food and most restaurants in general to cooking healthy at home. This allows me to sneak healthy food to the rest of my family without them knowing!
Erin W - I can’t say that I have any secrets when it comes to being healthy and working out but I will share some of my tips. Laugh everyday and not just the he he he kind of laugh I mean the tummy clenching, gut laugh. I try to smile at the little things, pay attention to the things around me. I go for a walk every day. I have started posting a list on my fridge of the meals I plan for the week, it reminds me to eat healthy. I keep a few pieces of fruit on the counter in a pretty glass bowl so I am even more tempted to eat it. I also keep a bottle of water next to the kitchen sink, then I just have to grab and go. I also drink two glasses of water every morning and every evening. Vitamins are a necessity, I fill my weekly dosette every Sunday morning.
When it comes to music I only play songs that actually garner a physical reaction in me. For example, if I hear Gwen Stefani and I actually feel like dancing or getting up and moving around onto my ipod it goes. I have a question for you what is on your itunes list?
Emily - I keep a binder of all of the healthy living tips and quick workouts that I read in Health, Style and Healthy living magazines. That way, I don’t forget the ideas and can reference the binder when I need a little inspiration!
josie - I just got a new ipod and made playlists based on how long my workouts were going to be. I got the idea here after looking for some good music to work out to.
http://popmusic.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_best_workout_music
And I always drink water with a straw. I seem to drink much more that way.
Tracy - I don’t workout, like I should. But Mary J. Blige’s Family Affair is a great song to workout to.
rena - My trick to getting a workout in during the day is chasing my twin toddlers around the house. I never sit down until they go to bed. My tunes are dora the explorer and barney. It doesnt sound very glamorous but I love it! I am actully reading one of the books you edited by Jeffery Gitomer. Little black book of connections. I find it applicable in any lifestyle. I love the way this book is laid out. It is fun to read that way!
Alison - I would say my secrets right now are (1) meeting my trainer every week and (2) making my own healthy meals. Not really anything earth-shattering, but my trainer really makes me push myself further than I would have on my own. Plus, knowing that I’m going to see him motivates me to go to the gym on other days too.
perfect bound - it’s no secret, but i love to cook and find that i have more control over my health when i prepare my own food. eating out is such fun and because of my job, I do it quite often. but you never know how your food is prepared. extra fats always sneak in there to make it all taste so good. last year, we grew several items in our garden like basil, peas and tomatoes. it wasn’t much (we live in a city) but it encouraged me to cook with local produce and eat unprocessed foods. the best “healthy living” tip I ever received was to stick to the perimeter of the grocery store when shopping. stay away from the inside isles which contain processed foods like crackers, canned soups and frozen foods. It requires several more trips to the grocery store each week, but it’s simple and pure wisdom.
Dawn - My biggest thing is staying aware of what I’m eating, so I log everything I eat (and all my workouts!) on a site called fitday.com. It’s free and once you start doing it, it becomes habit. And you get such a better idea of how things add up when you don’t realize what you’re doing!
I also recently bought a heart rate monitor, which helps me know when I need to kick up my workouts a little more. Love it.
Danielle Velie - My healthy living secret is to encourage others in fitness and healthy eating. It helps me to see their success and to also know that I’ve contributed to some of my favorite people living longer so that i get to spend more time with them!! Sounds simple but it means the world to me.
Danielle
Shari Anderson - my healthy living secret is to LIVE each day. to find HAPPINESS each day. to GIVE something of myself each day. to TAKE time for myself each day. to ENGAGE in the little things each day. to BE thankful each day.
smiles!
Stacey - This is a great idea that comes at a time when I really need to be paying more attention to healthy living – thanks!
I think my secret of healthy living is also to get enough sleep, take my vitamins and drink water throughout the day.
As for music, I’m in the process of making a new playlist that, I hope, will take me outside for more runs now that the weather is nicer!
Nancy - My healthy living secret?
I am not doing too good in that department lately.
I have started dancing though.
Dance Sensation lessons.
Like Saturday Night Fever meets line dancing. Some dances are relaxing, some really get your heartbeat going.
My favorites are dancing on Great Balls of Fire and Blame It On The Boogie.
A one hour lessons each thursday, and because it is so much fun, I do these dances all week. And feel better already.
Sounds like a great give-away!
You’re so generous, I guess it runs in the family!
Nancy

julie - i LOVE your blog & i love running. i have tried everything and have discovered it is by far the best overall workout for me with the best physical results. i also love how you have to really mentaly prepare yourself for long runs. i’m getting ready for a race sunday.
my workout tips:
*PLENTY of water all day. i keep it room tempeture and it goes down the best.
*not only are they functional, but cute work out clothes and a great pair of shoes help! i love the adidas supernova shoes.
*as far as my music i try to keep a variety to keep from getting bored. i love old madonna, some hard stuff and i hate to admit it but britney spears new stuff is pretty great for working out too.
*i have taken up juicing carrots apples and cucumnbers (great for your skin) since i had my son and i also try to have a healthy after workout snack.
*not beating myself up for missing a workout.
*and the essential occasional detox with tea and herbs. to keep me clean.
Gayle - I am a water junkie, and have just discovered vitamin water. I love it and with a bottle of that, my iPod with my U2 and Beyonce playlist, I feel like I can walk a bit longer!
Cheryl - I found the perfect container for water for work. I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse and needed something that didn’t spill and would keep my water cold. Tervis Tumblers. They come in a 24 ounce size so if I drink several of those a day I am set. They are insulated, don’t have condensation and are virtually indestructable-if they do get broken Tervis Tumblers replaces them for free.Amazing way to keep hydrated.
Kimberly L.C. - I’ve been struggling with my weight for several years and just recently started working out again. My trick is to do it in the morning, before I can make excuses or find ways to not exercise. I also stopped trying to do things that I didn’t like. Now I split my time between water aerobics (gotta have water shoes… they’re key), yoga, mat pilates and the elliptical trainer, along with some weight training. The weight is slowly coming off!
My other trick is to buy a goal outfit, something you buy and hang up to motivate you to stay on track, eat healthy and exercise. I’m waiting to wear this cute Calvin Klein dress I bought at an after Christmas sale at a party this fall (I hope)!
When I workout I listen to disco and ’80s music. Both make me smile.
Julie - Reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver was the best step I have ever taken on the path to healthier living. The book inspired me to make the focus of my diet locally grown organic produce (and locally raised, antibiotic/hormone free meat on occasion). Better for me and, because the food don’t have to be shipped across the country or the world, better for the planet…not to mention that it tastes SO much better! Also, I keep my Riedel Vienna pitcher in the fridge filled with water and thinly sliced lemons, limes and oranges (my one non-local purchase!). Divine!
RachelG - Running is my secret to staying healthy. I find that it not only keeps my heart and lungs strong, but it also works wonders for my mental health. I am a much better wife, mother, person when I run 4-6 miles several days a week. I prefer to focus in on the rhythm of my breath over music, but when I do need that extra push, I listen to something hard driving like Rage Against the Machine.
I would love to hear how you stay healthy and in such great shape with all of your traveling. What kind of workouts do you do and how do you manage to fit them in to such a busy schedule?
Monica - I love Sark too!
My secrets for a healthy lifestyle are drinking lots of water and if I need something with flavor or a kick I’ll often have unsweetened iced tea. I also steer clear of all pork products and shellfish. I try to eat raw vegetables or fruits at each meal and encourage my kids to do the same. For exercise, I have to enjoy it to stick to it. What works for me is walking with my ipod and doing some work with weights indoors.
My fave ipod tunes to workout with currently are:
1) Give until there’s nothing left – Relient K
2) Better be good to me – Tina Turner
3) Jerusalem – Matisyahu
4) Escape – Enrique Iglesias
5) A little less conservation – Elvis
6) In between days – The Cure
7) Everlong – Foo Fighters
8) Days of Elijah – Twila Paris
Jennifer - My ipod is key (along with a super slick arm band to keep it in place for those long runs) to stay motivated! My new healthy habit is drinking water out of a stainless steel bottle–no more plastic/Nalgene bottles! Chemicals in them can leach into the water causing all sorts of endocrine/hormone problems. And it’s better for the environment as well…
Amanda Wetekamp - Beating boredom is key for me! I enjoy changing between walking, running, swimming and rollerblading. Music is another important element. Right now I’m running to Third Day.
Lemon in the water, as others have stated, is my trick. Thanks!
malinda - great and inspiring giveaway….I have been trying to work out more so I have joined 2 of my friends and we are working out together 2-3 times per week. It makes it much easier to exercise when you use the buddy system. It really makes me get up and go!
I love to work out to REM, U2, Pearl Jam, AC/DC!
have a great day
Karen - I try to live healthy by exercising 6 days/week for 45 minutes to 1 hour. I mix up my workouts with running, elliptical and EcoTrek (1 hour and 15 minutes of walking, running, resistance bands and yoga)…awesome!!
I also try to drink plenty of water. Fresh lemon slices always are a treat to add!!
I love lots of different music genres, but primarily prefer contemporary Christian music. It is so inspirational to me!!
Enjoy your day!
Karen
Mary - My latest motivator has been wearing a pedometer everyday. This started out as a healthy-lifestyle challenge at work. I had been working out regularly, but the pedometer has pushed me to get more little walks in everyday such as during little breaks at work and after dinner. Its been fun to try to meet my daily steps goal!
As for inspirational reading, Mireille Guiliano’s French Women Don’t Get Fat really set me on the path towards healthy weight loss and to appreciate good food (quality over quantity!)
Claudia - I love listening to Jamiroquai.
Ice water always does the trick for me…and LOTS of ice!
Reading anything about Buddhism and having a positive attitude is always inspiring to me.
Kendall - I put just a splash of lemonade in my water bottle. My fave workout music is anything ’80s! (There is a great ’80s mix on iTunes–everything from Wham to Rick Springfield!) I also find workout clothes that make me feel cute goes a long way in inspiring me to visit the gym!
Danielle - If I do not eat carbs after 5pm, it does wonders for my body. That is my super secret diet trick! Exercise everyday, rain, sleet, or shine. If it Oprah can do it, so can I. She inspired me with a story about a time it rained and she crawled back in bed, assuming her trainer would cancel. He called her and told her to get moving – rain is no excuse. I live by the same words too. Thanks for the great giveaway Jessica!
Heather - I have found that a little lemon in my water helps me drink a whole lot more of it!!
I’ve also got into the habit of checking the playlists on itunes for new music to keep me going!!
Thanks for a healthy giveaway! We all could use it!!
Hugs,
Heather
Rebekah - Pete Yorn is my favorite workout music.
My favorite tip for exercising is to listen to an audio book. If I only listen to the book while I’m exercising, it gives me the motivation to exercise more so that I can hear more of the book.
lacy - Fav workout jams are music from my childhood, silly inspirational songs like Tina Turner, Simply the best, The song from Top Gun, Highway to the Danger Zone, Songs from Footloose… stuff that reminds me of dancing in the living room as a kiddo with my kid sister. H2O trick- I try to only drink water throughout the day, add a little fruit and grab a fun umbrella straw! Reading for inspiration… Your blog!, my sisters writing, my own journals, I am more visual so often I just look at photos that inspire me!
Ryan - My secret is heated yoga classes, they really give you the opportunity to sweat out toxins, get the heart rate up, and build some muscle too. Water is my favorite drink anytime, and it keeps my skin in check too. I will go running now that it is getting nice out and I love to listen to upbeat 80′s tunes. I also try to drink as little alcohol as possible, my friends can drink martinis every weekend, for me it makes me bloated and dehydrates my skin so I am careful.
Tori - A healthy secret is making sure I get enough sleep and taking vitamins. The sleep thing is always hard but worth it in the long run!
Some workout music I love is Rock n’ Roll music or something with a fast beat, I realize I run or exercise to the beat, so anything with a good steady beat!
Great Giveaway!
Agnes - Healthy living secret – years ago I struggled with my weight, could not get control of it and finally I did, I spend many years being over weight & I will do everything now not to let myself gain weight. Sure I will cheat but I stay focused. Biggest motivator – I love my clothes & would not part without them now and couture doesn’t go up in a size 14!!! Music – anything with energy, my mood changes everyday. But I think it will be the new madonna cd for the next little bit. Trick for drinking water – I need it cold, fresh lime or lemon & if that fails I add crystal light. What do I read to be inspired – blogs including yours & magazines.
sara - Wow…could I use some help in this area! With a new baby, I feel like I don’t devote much time to a healthy me. Having said that…my secrets aren’t really all that earth shattering…but, when I think about what I do to make myself fell rejuvenated I think of these things:
-Drinking lots of tea (does this count for water?)
-Praying. Letting go of the big stuff (and the small stuff) and giving it up to God.
-Taking walks. Not really speed walking, but rather strolling outside when the weather is nice.
-Eating strawberries.
-Reading inspirational things (your blog is an example)
-being creative in some way.
Thanks for the chance at another great giveaway. I must confess, if I win…I’ll be saving those glass water bottles and refilling them! Tacky? Maybe. But it’s true. They are too lovely!
Tina - After being a diet coke “junkie” for years, I finally decided to give it up for good. I lost a lot of weight, and knew that drinking lots of water was the reason why.
I eat healthy, but always craved diet coke. My doctor said it made me crave more and more sweets. Now, if I want something sweet, I’ll eat a Tootsie Pop. Only one.
I listen to a little bit of everything while working out…Aerosmith, Dixie Chicks, AC/DC, John Mellencamp, David Grey, Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Madonna. I like to mix it up.
Getting enough sleep is essential for me to feel good. That and thinking positively.
Thanks for the great blog and give away!
Tina
Cheryl M - I go to “boot camp” 3 days a week from 5:30 am to 6:30 am. It combines running, obstacle courses, weights and mat work. It’s a great way to start the day and my workout is already done before most people are out of bed. I drink lots of water all day long, and my inspirational reading comes from magazines such as Women’s Health, Prevention and Self.
Jessica Fulkerson - I too love myself, my life and my body when it is strong and healthy. In the past few years (especially since leaving the college lifestyle) I’ve tried to work towards a more healthy and natural life.
One great tip: After a trip to the grocery store (Trader Joes!) I wash and cut up all of my fruits and veggies right then. Having them ready all week, to eat right away or throw in a bag and take to work, means I’m more likely to reach for them instead of a granola bar or junk food item. Red bell pepper, carrots, celery, strawberries, grapes and watermelon are great for this! (Obviously apples, avocados, tomatoes, bananas and grapefruit are left as-is until they are eaten)
I also believe that mental health plays a big part in physical health and overall well-being. Therefore, I have focused my friendship and attention only on those that are stable and healthy in their own lives and who enrich mine. (i.e. no toxic, draining relationships)
What an inspiration post and great comments!
Paulette Sarsfield - Drinking water is the “easy part” it’s keeping my hands busy after supper! I walk in the quiet of rural Nova Scotia or use old work out vhs’s of Gin Miller & Kathy Smith…or head to the pool..I try to do a little something everyday… The inspiration on my bed side right now is Love Life by Kal Bareski, I so love her work… You are quite an inspiration yourself!
Bridget Corbin - I drink lots of water and aim for eight hours of sleep a night! I love Nalgene bottles, I take them everywhere with me throughout the day. It helps cut down on the amount of plastic water bottle waste. Instead of coffee, I drink white tea. And I love jog and play tennis! Thanks for a fun give away!
Catharine - Awesome giveaway….
My secret for drinking water is having tea. Ever since I started drinking tea, my skin has been amazing…I stopped having breakouts and that definitely makes me happy. The music I like to work out to is anything that is upbeat, I have an eclectic taste…from country to top 40s, etc. whatever gets my heartbeat up. As far as what I read that is inspirational, anything that I read to my 5 y/o that makes her happy. Catharine.
Katie - I keep myself healthy by getting enough sleep. Do I really need to watch that TV show? I can finish my book tomorrow. Going to bed early lets both my mind & body rest. I feel fresh and ready to go in the morning.
Nichole - One of my inspirations is you Jessica!!
You look fabulous and your clothes are to die for!!
Whenever I’m in the mood to indulge in something not so healthy or to not go to the gym, I visit your page which inspires me by all of the beautiful clothes I’m able to wear and purchase if I continue to keep myself fit and in shape.
You’re a constant reminder of all of the fun I can have with fashion if I continue to keep myself healthy and fit!!
Thank you for your daily delights and inspiration.
Krista L. - I too gave up the soda. My skin is better without it. Get a small stainless steel bottle and always carry it in your bag.
Joelle - Just bought a SIGG water bottle. What an encouragement to drink more water from a safe water bottle. keep up the great blog.
Joelle
Lindsay - i have really eclectic musical tastes, so i like to change up my workout playlists a lot. this is the one im using currently:

Jennifer - For a chance to win, leave your name and a comment with your healthy living secret. What’s your favorite music to work out to? Do you have a great trick for drinking more water? What do you read to be inspired?
Hi, I’m Jen. My healthy living secret is to drink a lot of water. Once I got off pop/soda and drank water I felt 200% better. Try it, I KNOW you’ll feel better. I did.
My fav. music to work out to. Well, I made up an itunes playlist with lots of hard rock, quick beats (it keeps my feet moving), dance tunes and then some slower tunes for when I’m cooling down. I’ve found that when I work out there’s a time span that I just slow down and run out of energy so I put the bouncier songs there to encourage my feet to keep moving on pace.
Trick for drinking more water. Um…no other than I keep water available at all times. So I don’t reach for the alternative, a sugary fruity drink. Although I do occassionally drink a soda/pop or something else but only infrequently. It’s bad to try and cut out everything.
Inspirting reading…wow, that’s a toughy. I can’t really say. Wow, I can’t think of anything other than to say I am inspired by stories of people who lost it all or started from nothing and made it. Are happy, not necessarily wealthy but their life is just where they want it. That’s inspiring.
Traci - My trick for making water feel exquisite and drinking more is to add cucumber slices to it. It adds a fresh flavor and makes it feel “oh so fancy” when I drink it out of a fancy goblet. I also find it is easier to know how much water I drink if I am drinking out of a water bottle since I can count the number of bottles I put away. I use my Nike + iPod to run which allows me to choose my music (definitely needs to be upbeat) and log my miles. I run in addition to doing 3 days of hard-core bootcamp classes with one of my best friends who teaches the class. Having someone there to hold you accountable is a definite plus. “If you cheat, you only cheat yourself” is her motto and I live by that motto!
robin - I place a glass of water with a slice of lemon right at my computer everyday..if it’s there I’ll drink it. Lately I’ve been more inspired by music. Yesterday I listened to I-NINE. Their new cd came out today. I also think Madonna’s new cd Hard Candy will be great to work out to..and I’m totally inspired by her body at that age..incredible..check her out in the new video 4 minutes..wow!!!
Courtney - Wow great giveaway!
Music is a must for my work out. I also love to run outside. I don’t know why, but on a pretty day the miles seem to fly by.
I also use a low-sugar, high protein liquid mix in for my water. It might just be mental, but I get a lot less side and calf craps while running.
elizabeth holder - boy do i need help in drinking water – just can’t seem to do it!
Erin Bassett - My “secret” is to do what I love, say NO, and live a grateful and active life.
christina Hall - opps! PS. I meant my secret is to I dont over do it
christina Hall - I do over do it. I do Hatha Yoga flow twice a week and run around the Lake here in Seattle 3 miles twice a week. I eat “clean”: which is eating non processed foods, no fake sugars, and drinking plenty of water. I load my Ipod with music from all eras and sermons from church that motivate me to keep going.
To help me keep drinking water, I mix it up, I take some pre squeezed lemon juice and sqirk a little in my water, so sometimes its a little more flavorful.
Lisa M. - I listen to my body. It will tell me when I need vegetables, and when I need to meditate and rest. It will tell me when I can work harder, or not so hard.
Danielle - I use a huge water bottle and make sure I drink it all by the end of the day. I also make sure I am eating fruits and veggies at every meal.
Jeanette - I joined WW last week and am working toward a more healthy lifestyle. I’ve been chewing 2 fiber tablets daily (you posted about them some time ago) and I’m trying to drink more water.
With the weather improving in our area, it’s now time to get outside and walk every day.
Shelly in the NW - to drink more water i almost always use a straw (for some reason it seems to go down much faster) and if I feel the need to ‘snack’ i have a glass of water first.
for healthier living – good sleep is essential. the body needs rest and relaxation to keep going and i think we all know how we feel when we don’t get enough of it.
Shelly D. - No earth shattering secrets for me. Just little tweaks. I drink my water from a couple of glasses I love (one from a recent cruise another that I got from Starbucks that is cute and happy). I have a pedometer on my new cell phone and I try to increase my steps each day. As far as the music goes, anything that I get to choose is great fun (I live in a house of teenagers! There is always music playing and mostly not music of my choosing!)
Jennifer - Jessica, thanks so much for this giveaway! I exercise in front of the TV. I find ways to make my favorite foods lighter -it keeps me from cheating. Also, cardio and weights 4 times/week will really help to see results.
Theresa - I love this giveaway – I’m re-learning how to live a healthy lifestyle as I’m in the process of losing 75 pounds (seven pounds so far – yay!). One of my inspirations is an older friend of mine who’s a gym/fitness rat. Seeing how active and committed he is to fitness – and talking to him about the ups and downs of my journey – helps me so much.
I drink most of my water at work – I have a large pink water bottle that I challenge myself to fill up (and finish) four times during the day – and I have a Sigg that I drink one full bottle of when working out. When I need a change of pace, either drink infused lemon water from my fridge or use a Crystal Light on-the-go packet.
Current workout song faves include GoGetta from Young Jeezy, Don’t Stop the Music by Rhianna, and classic AC/DC (love heavy metal when I’m doing weights). I also started using podfitness.com, which you can integrate your favorite songs into a training session from a variety of well-known fitness trainers, and it’s great!
Carissa - I love Sark, so inspiring,
Right now Sabrina Ward Harrison is
what I am reading for inspiration.
Such raw emotion & talent.
On the health front I am trying to
give up soda, AGAIN. So I always
have water everywhere. Especially
distilled or reverse osmosis,
the taste is the BEST!
Karol - Awesome giveaway. My tip for drinking more water…lots of ice and lemon! Tasty.
Amanda - I don’t really have a problem getting in water. I just take a few bottles with me to work and I drink them throughout the day.
I don’t work out like I should but if I did it would be fun music like the High School Musical soundtrack.
As for healthy living I think water is the most important.
kelly - Thanks Jessica for a great giveaway..I love your blog. Tips…eat breakfast everyday, no carbs after lunch, at least 5 days of cardio and two days of weight training. My playlist for running is long..rap music tops the list though. Water just is a habit, drink with each meal no matter what else you might be enjoying with the meal. That includes your snacks too.
bunny - My secret to my health so far has been drinking water. That’s honestly my fave drink. I stopped drinking colas back in middle school when I was a sprinter, and I only drink warm water when eating, even when eating out!

I love Kylie – so I listen to her for anything!
A great trick to drinking more water is to have a big bottle of water near to you, so whenever you feel thirsty, you just reach out and grab it!
Thanks!
Camille - Wow, what a great giveaway and perfect timing for me personally. Especially for all the inspiration by all these comments!
My trick for drinking more water is lots of ice, some fresh lemon (or lemon juice) and some Splenda. Voila, a really good homemade “lemonade” of sorts!
I’m a little behind, *just* jumping on the ipod bandwagon, as of Christmas. Have just a handful of songs on there so far, but lots of stuff with a strong beat for working out!
Another workout tip (when on the treadmill at home) is to pick out some chick flicks and watch while upping the incline and/or intensity…. ya just wanna keep watching, so in turn you work out longer… bonus!
Thanks again for the great post!!
Scarlett - What an inspiring giveaway!
I try to keep water all around me, so I have no excuse–in the car, at my desk, on my bedside table.
And my favorite workout music is kept on a playlist in iTunes, featuring, among others, Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder & Duran Duran!
Thanks for the great reading and eye candy!!!
SaraE - The best thing I’ve done to feel better was one of the simplest: I stopped drinking soda. I feel so much better without the bubbles. I’ve also discovered that the hardest part about working out is simply getting to the gym. I know that once I am there I will stick it out – and actually like it. As for music, I like to run to Beastie Boys, Spoon, and Missy Elliott.
Erica Hettwer - How timely! This week I’ve recommited to healthy living. My tip is to keep your goal in mind during the day.
I’m trying to lose some baby weight so I can be healthy when we try to have our second child. It’s really a much better motivator for me than just losing weight to look good.
Melanie - I always try to keep changing up my workouts so they don’t get boring. Once in a while I will get on a gym machine but I do step, cycle and Zumba! Fun workout clothes and rockin’ itunes (almost anything by Madonna will get me going, Avril Lavine’s “Girlfriend” song is a guilty pleasure) all keep me motivated.
What a fun and inspirational giveaway!
noell - One of the best things I’ve done for myself is to cut out all animal foods and animal by-products. Not only do I feel healthier because of the lack of meat and cheese and milk, but I’ve found a greater love for vegetables. Learning to flavor my foods with things other than cheese, cream, or meat-based broths have opened up a world of other healthy flavors I never noticed when I ate meat. I also get so much more fiber now because every serving of meat I used to eat was a serving without fiber.
Also, I’ve been exercising first thing in the morning for years. It is something I schedule into my daily life, every day at the same time. After doing that for a while, it becomes automatic and you no longer have to battle with yourself to do it. It’s just what you do.
Stephanie Wheeler - My way to be healthy is to move A LOT. This doesn’t mean I work out every single day for an hour, but I do housework, I walk up and down stairs more than I really need to, I park further away from the store than I need to, etc. No matter what I’m doing, I’m moving somewhere, somehow, and with a desk job, it is a MUST.
And I drink lots and lots of water, cause it makes me feel gooooodd.
Deanna - Love your blog Jessica (& great giveaway!)
So many people have posted great comments.
I try to drink lots of water and play with my little ones outside whenever I can.
Tamara - Great Giveaway!
I love your blog Jessica!
I started taking swimming lessons last September because I thought that at 32, it was about time I learned. Turns out it’s a great way to stay in shape!
my exercise playlist contains a mish mash of songs, my favorites at the moment are Vianne Sets Up Shop and Other Possibilities from the Chocolat soundtrack, Smooth by Carlos Santana and Black Fingernails, Red Wine by Eskimo Joe.
My trick for drinking more water is using 300ml glass bottles. The smaller volume just isn’t as daunting and I find I drink two at one sitting.
Right now I’m reading a really fun book on how to make healthy eating fun and a way of life. The book is called French Women Don’t Get Fat and is by Mireille Guiliano.
Amy M - What a fun giveaway!
It’s probably not a secret, but I definitely have a mix to workout with… it always starts with the Beastie Boys (Sabotage)- I NEVER listen to it unless I’m about ready to work. The words are not particularly inspirational but it reminds me of a really happy fun time in my life (college) where I felt and looked good. So I transport myself to 10 years ago and rock out
Also, when I trained for a 5K I downloaded the Couch 2 5K podcasts and listened to those to keep me motivated.
For water… I have sinc stopped reusing my water bottles and went to a Klean Kanteen, so I just make it a point to go through at least 2 a day and then try to sneak in water anywhere else I can. The water tastes great in the KK, and I have an insulated sleeve to keep it nice and cool!
Amy M.
Danielle - My healthy living secret is exercise rain, sleet, snow, or shine…no matter what! I remember Oprah saying she thought she got to stay in bed and not work out the first time it rained. Her trainer dragged her out of bed and told her she was going to work out every day no matter what. That has inspired me on days when I have a million excuses not to exercise.
I also find that not eating a lot of carbs after 5pm works wonders on my body.
My favorite song to run to is Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around Comes Around”. Even though it is slow, it has a solid and super steady beat. Try it and have fun!
Stephanie Scholz - This is so cool! Thanks for a chance to win. I recently gave up coke – I needed to lay off the caffeine and coke was my vice. I went cold turkey right after Easter so it’s been a little over a month now and to make it easier, I started drinking flavored seltzer so I can still get my bubbly! I also recently started walking 3 miles at least 4 days a week for 12 miles total and I feel revived. Thanks again.
Steph S.
Emily - I agree with the water thing. It’s a big deal to me, and now it’s almost like a game. When I was pregnant with my son I filled up a jug every morning and the goal was to drink a gallon a day. Now that I’m pregnant with baby #2 it’s become an obsession again. I almost get annoyed when my pee isn’t clear! My trick is to drink water at room temperature. It’s not as refreshing, but for quantity’s sake…it’s a lot easier to drink more water when it’s not cold. A small amount of cold water will satisfy thirst when it takes a lot more room temperature water to satisfy. Oh, and here’s my music suggestion: My favorite warm-up song is “Annie Waits” by Ben Folds. By the end of the song I’m sick of walking and ready to run, I don’t know what it does to me, but I love that song. (play it loud!)
Maggie - My secret? I mark off 2 days a week as my “free days” since I have a home-based business, I used to feel the need to work on it ALL the time. But if you never slow down you can never speed up. So now I make sure that I have a “weekend” like my hubby has. Sure, I am still Mommy on my free days, but we just move at a more relaxed pace and enjoy the days for what they are.
That and I have gone off caffeine. And once in a while, I go to sleep SUPER early so I can try to catch up on all the sleep my 9-month old son tries to rouse me from every morning. -Maggie
Dawn - Wish I had the secret !;-)
Right now I’m just trying to pry the McDonalds sweet tea from my hands and get on the treadmill…..
Thanks for the chance to win!
monica g. - great giveaway!
Eat breakfast everyday and I drink lots of water.
Hailey - One of my tricks to stay healthy is to ALWAYS have breakfast. It really prevents me from snacking all morning! I also try to plan out my lunches the night before so I am eating a healthier lunch at work
Kyli Tidwell - Great giveaway!
I don’t have any big secrets. I try to do something exercise related everyday and eat a little less and healthier. I am definitely taking baby steps, but as long as I stay on the healthy road, I am happy!
I love to read any kind of inspirational book or a book that teaches me something new!
Kelly - I make a point to get up from my desk once an hour to get water. It gives me a nice break and assures me my recommended water for the day.
My son has been a member at the gym for a couple of years and the best investment in not only myself but my relationship with him is to join it also.
He has taken great pride in getting his 40 something mom on a workout routine and we both have satisfaction knowing I have shed over 15 lbs in the last 6 months. It gives us a few hours a week to catch up with no friends, no telephone, no computer, no housework. His college schedule hasn’t allowed us time to go much this semester so I am looking forward to his summer break.
It makes me feel good knowing my 19 year old son is as proud of me as I am of myself.
Valerie - I have my treadmill placed right in front of the TV — I am much more likely to burn some calories while getting my mind off the fact that I am doing just that! And I also don’t set lofty goals — usually when I do so I eventually fall off the wagon, so I just keep it a simple goal of getting on there every day. That way, if I miss a day or two, I still got in at least 5 days per week.
Tracy S. - Fun as always!
Water is usually my secret, well not secret but choice. I drink as many bottles as I can possibly manage at work, after my coffee. I try to get in at least 4 bottles, if not more. That way when I get home I can have whatever else I want. Plus it helps me stay full all day so I’m not snacking at my desk!
Laura - Love the giveaway jessica! totally agree that music makes a huge difference in healthy living. i also think spiritual health is important, so making time to read my Bible everyday makes my life healthier (and hopefully those around me)
cheers!
angie - Hi! I do not work out in a gym, but chasing the kids around all day is my workout! I love listening to XM radio during the day and especially like Colbie Calliat lately. She alone is inspiring. She started out by making little videos on youtube and was “found” that way! I sprinkly True Lemon (crystallized lemon) in each glass of water I drink. I drink probably 6-8 glasses a day. If I fall short, I feel it. I love to read Dwell and Body & Soul magazines in my downtime for inspiration on healthy living. After reading all the posts, I need a Sigg bottle!!
Stephanie - Here’s a great way to drink more water…get pregnant! I have never in my life craved water like I do now, and certainly hope it keeps up after baby is born. I wasn’t much of a water drinker before so this is a great phase to be in and makes me realize how much my body needs it!
Trish M - Hi Jessica,
Love your blog and love-love this giveaway! While i do drink water everyday, I would love to read the book and mellow out to some tunes. A fun escape and mind-massage for a busy mom!
Trish
(When i used to work out, it was to Tom Petty. Now I clean to anything that lets me dance while sweeping, twirl while dusting, etc. hahaha)
brooke - Hello there
). My workout secret is to join a gym with some friends! There is nothing funner than working out with girlfriends while your kids are in the childcare. It gives you a nice break and a jumpstart for the day! I put a little Crystal Light in my water to make it taste yummy, there are some great new flavors! My fav. workout music varies, but I always love Justin Timberlake when I need to run to a good beat!! What a fun giveaway, I LOVE your blog so much!!
leslie - wow. another giveaway. i love the theme this time. healthy living! my husband is my trick. for sure. he is so motivating. encouraging. healthy himself. also. i love reading books. especially about macrobiotics. i get all excited. and want to share the news. i’d like to know what your healthy tricks are!
beth - hi jessica…the one thing that makes a difference for me is creating. that might sound weird, but it makes me happier person.
jessica - Hi Jessica
I wish I had a secret to healthy living. Hate to admit it, but Haven’t been living to healthy lately. Trying to get focused though. I have three beautiful daughters that are my motivation for living a longer healthier life.
I find that I can drink more water when it is at room temperature rather than cold. When I am in the mood to exercise, the first song that plays on my ipod is Mary J. Blige, Family Affair.
Love reading your blog
Jessica
Kayla - I try to eat very healthy during the week and on weekends eat what i want. But i also drink alot of water and not eat after 8:00 PM. For music when i work out i like to listen to ANYTHING with a beat to it! Something to keep me going!
Maria - I get up in the morning before work to work out. That way I have NO EXCUSE not to do it. On my ipod I love to listen to the podrunner podcast. I also use the sensor in my shoe that links to my ipod and tells me how far I am going when I run, it definately keeps me motivated.
Thanks for the great giveaway!!!
Sundee - What a fun giveaway!
I am constantly updating my iPod workout song playlist – some staples on that playlist are Fergie, JT, and the Black Eyed Peas.
I also make sure I drink 6-8 glasses of water during the day here at work, in addition to what I have in the mornings when I work out and in the evenings at home. Also drink green tea a few times a day to get those antioxidants.
I make sure to eat plenty of veggies, which has just gotten easier since I started using the Ziploc Zip n Steam bags – those are amazing!
I also have a 6-year old boy who loves sports – so taking him to the park to play basketball/football/baseball/soccer are part of my everyday routine.
andie smith - you have the best give aways!
water!!! and i put pure lemon in the water bc i get bored with just plain water. as for my fav work out music something slow and “new world-y” I do a lot of yoga.
tami - i am training for a half marathon. i plan to run 4 this year, i already have one down. i find that when i PAY for the race, I train for it. i have been running about 25 miles a week, last week it was 32.
i got a new SIGG water bottle in the mail today. it’s lovely, the flow of water into your mouth is much better than those plastic nalgene bottles.
e - I always keep my iPod “gym mix” fresh – it keeps me going on the treadmill.
Once I got used to drinking enough water it just kind of stuck. Now if I know if I’m not drinking enough – I can feel it.
In order to get all my fruits and veggies I buy pre-cut trays of each at the grocery store. This way I can take little containers to work for snacking. I don’t have much time to cut it all myself and have found this really works well.
Julie A. - My healthy living secret is to let my four year old son dictate the evening’s activities at least three days during the week. He never picks anything sedentary and we always have a blast!
Andrea - Hi Jessica, great giveaway!
For being healthy, I treat myself to Smart Water. It is my favorite water and you can drink a lot without feeling like the water is sloshing around in your belly! It’s like drinking air. It’s not uncommon for me to drink two of the really big ones per day. Totally worth the money because it makes me happy and I feel great from all the water.
I just updated my workout mix on my ipod. FloRida In the Ayer and Low, Missy Elliot Lose Control, Lenny Kravitz Where are we Runnin’, Kelly Clarkson Since U Been Gone, Gwen Stafani Wind It Up are a few!
My favorite snacks lately are broccoli, carrots, cucs, grape toms dipped in hummus, grapefruit, or string cheese.
I let my workouts slip this last year, but am back full force now. I keep thinking “Why did I ever stop treating myself to working out??” I feel incredible and my energy is crazy!
So I completely agree that the best way to treat yourself and the best way to feel is by drinking tons of water, working out consistently, and eating healthy fresh vitamin packed foods.
Andrea
erika - taking baby steps to make long term changes.
Basicly focusing on making little changes everyday, moving more, eating less is working for me. (slowly).
Kim Garner - I have committed to using my Brita pitcher and refillable water bottles throughout the day. I love it!
I actually use many of the songs from your sister’s itunes list for my workout. Love that also…
your site is so inspirational!
Barb - I love working out to fast music with a great beat. It varies from Rihanna to Keith Urban to Aerosmith! The secret to drinking more water for me is having a water bottle I like that I keep near me. If it’s there, I will drink it!
christa - I drink at least 6 bottles of water a day. I make sure that I always have enough at work and at home. I use the water fountain to fill up my empty bottle at work and put it in the freezer to chill while I drink out of my other bottle. Then when I am done with that I swap them out! Sometimes I forget one in the freezer over night and its frozen in the morning! hehe.
I truly believe that water is a great medicine and I can definitely tell the difference when I don’t get as much water into my body as usual.
Jenny - Great give away!
My healthy secret is to be balanced in my life. Body, mind and soul. When life gets to crazy (work, kids, home), I balance with my creative side of scrapbooking. Also, water is the only drink I drink.
Laura - I have a one litre Nalgene bottle that I pack with me everywhere. I challenge myself to refill it by 2pm everyday.
And now that the weather is nice, my girls and I spend a lot of time at the playground. They run and jump and I follow along. By the end of the summer, I’m going to be able to go ALL the way across the monkeybars too.
Not really secrets, just little ‘games’ I play to be healthy.
Thanks for the cool giveaway!
Jenny - I stay healthy by just playing with my niece and nephew every day, and remembering that being happy is the best way to want to live a long, healthy life.
Sharon - I have to add lime or lemon to my water. Recently I found TrueLime and TrueLemon (http://www.truelemon.com/) which helps when I’m away from home and don’t have access to fresh fruit.
Wendy - Great give-a-way!
I keep water cold in the frig and ready, so it is always quick and available.
I love running, so I read blogs written by other runners to inspire me.
Michelle - Have to admit – I am not doing as well as I should be in the healthy living area. But I am trying. My father is quite ill right now and this has added stress to my life (and that of the rest of my family). I am very concerned that the health issue he is dealing with (heart related) will rear its ugly head in my own life. The reality of it is very scary and has kind of boosted me into action. I guess fear is a bit of a motivator in my case.
I’m also the Mom of two active little girls, who are the little loves of my life. They’re my inspiration. I want to do better – to Be better – to be Here for them – for a long, long time!
I’ve never been one to enjoy water. And I know it’s important, so I am trying to stay hydrated. I have a large travel cup that I use and know just how many cups I need to drink daily. Often, I will add fresh lemon or lime, to brighten the flavor. And lots of ice helps a ton!
As for being inspired? This would be my children. I watch them play and explore. They make me want more out of my day – and they make me want to be a better me. I often find myself involved in what they’re doing. This week we had a happy game of tag in the backyard, until I about fell over. It was fun! They help to get me moving.
I’m enjoying reading what others have been posting. I hope to gain lots of tips to take back and use in my own life!
Amy - My personal staying healthy tip is to not overcook veggies (if you want to cook them at all) and to drink TONS of water. I keep my Sigg filled all day and try to drain it and re-fill as often as possible. It’s really made a HUGE difference to me to have a pretty healthy water bottle. I no longer buy bottled water or drink out of plastic bottles and i’m a happy girl!
Amy
Shawn - What a fun giveaway! I always drink water with my daughter (she’s 3) so we have our kleen canteens (from here http://www.kleankanteen.com/) always filled with ice cold ro water in the fridge. It tastes yummy and is always available for us to just grab. They are also eco friendly
which is very important to me!
shel - My healthy living secret is to give thanks everyday for life, family and friends. No matter what kind of day I have, if I focus on what I am thankful for, instantly my mood changes. If that doesn’t work, I head on over to http://www.cuteoverload.com/. The animals always make me smile and relax.
My iPod is filled with workout songs. I like Starry Eyed Surprise, The Girl from Ipanema, almost any song by Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk, Smile from Lily Allen, Move your Feet by Junior Senior.. I could go on.
I don’t have any secrets to drinking more water, but I just purchased a water bottle with a core that you can freeze. Much better than buying bottled water and throwing away the bottle.
I have been collecting inspirational quotes since I was in high school, so when I need some inspiration, I pull out one of my notebooks filled with quotes.
Love your blog, thanks for the chance to win!
Danielle - i think the most important ‘secret’ to healthy living is to get up each morning with a positive attitude, because your mind and body are SO connected. in addition to that, i think eating fresh is one of the best things you can do for yourself. fresh veggies, fruit, and anything organic makes me feel so healthy! my adorable husband has diabetes, so we really limit carbs which keeps both of us feeling healthier too.
love great tunes while walking or working out…some of the ones on my ipod are john mayer, maroon 5, regina spektor, louis armstrong, ella fitzgerald, and michael buble.
i love fiji water..it has a great taste, no phosphates, and a pretty bottle! i keep them cold in the fridge and try to grab one every time i walk out the door.
the bible inspires me to stay close to God and to keep my priorites…for home inspiration i love cottage living and coastal living…and for fashion, your blog is pretty inspiring!
thanks! danielle
{vic} - My healthy living secret is NO FRIED FOODS and living in the south–that’s hard to do.
My tip for drinking more water is be sure it is flavored and with crushed ice.
Who inspires me? YOUR SISTER
{VICKI}
PS: my favorite color is orange–Could you post some great fashion choices in orange?
karen - I am the mother of nine amazing children. Ranging in age from twenty-one to four year old twins. That means, I have limited time to care for my self, and I need the most bang for the time I have.
To ensure that I drink enough water, I went to my local “mini-mart” and purchased the largest insulated “cup” they had. It is a monster holding 64 ounces. (Can you even imagine drinking that much soda? OY!) I fill the cup each am with cold filtered water and take it with me- running errands, dropping children off at school, attending tennis and volleyball matches, taking the twins for long walks in the wagon. Where I go my “jug” goes. It feels so good when dinner arrives and I realize I have done this good thing for my body.
The music I listen to when working out, and on my long early morning walks- are music for my soul. i.e. books on tape. The full spectrum, from Jeffrey Deaver mysteries, to Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture. This morning I began my third pass through Randy’s lecture, it has made me think– What lessons for living do I want to pass on to my children? It has prompted their Dad and I to begin a journal of lists for our children. Lists that contain lessons learned, basic life instructions, tips we have learned in the past half century we have both been alive.
The music mix that plays in my vehicle– Now that is interesting. A combination of “Baby Buluga”, Springsteen, Domingo, and 60′s rock. Our four year olds know all the words to “Badlands”, “Everything Grows”, “Perhaps” and “American Pie”.
