Gladiator Jellies.

I was happy to find these gladiator jelly sandals at BCBG yesterday. I Don’t have a memory of wearing jelly sandals back when they were all the rage in the ’80s – so I happy to have my first shot at them with this pair! Jellies first made their debut at the 1982 World’s Fair…

Ryan Light - I love those shoes!

karen - Congratulations! You have just purchased the most uncomfortable pair of shoes you will ever own! There is a very good reason jellies were short lived.

Amy - beer

bunny - Oh, that’s adorable! I’m now shopping for a pair of gladiator shoes!

Stephanie P - Not sure what the #1 seller was. I do know the 1982 worlds fair was in Knoxville Tennessee because I attended at the mere age of 5. I got a t-shirt so maybe that was number 1.
Stephanie P

tracy - I have to say that those jellies are so far the only ones I have seen that I can stand. I’m all about the new gladiator sandals, picked up a pair a couple weeks ago myself, however I’m just not understanding the new jellies shoes explosion. Yours are fine because they don’t look like the typical jellies, but the ones I’ve seen around the city-clear, bright pink, with no style-just bright plastic shoes that remind me of sweaty feet-really turn me off. So great job on finding a nice pair!

lizee - i woulda never known these are jellies!!
ur feet can pull off the gladitor look…
looking cute:)

jenn - those are jellies??? hehe I remember wearing jelly shoes in pastal colours or brights and they were a lot different than that!!! omg I may have just dated myself? lol no clue on the number one selling thing?

Giveaway winner.

Thanks to everyone for entering. It’s pretty obvious from the response that Target needs to do a sunglass collaboration with a great brand! Here’s the winner for this giveaway… I love thinking of sunglasses as sunnies! And for anyone looking for the perfect pair to complement their face shape or style, check out the current…

Kelly - I have been searching for the perfect pair of new sunglasses for weeks now.
I just look for a pair that I think looks good on me!

Courtney - Wow what a great blog gift. Unfortunately my favorite pair of sunglasses (Maui Jims) I lost a couple of years ago. Right now I’m sporting these large brown/bronze sunglasses. I’d also have to say my husband’s aviators are pretty high on my list too.

Mary Lib - Oh I love this giveaway. I have a thing for nice sunglasses but havent had much luck holding on to them lately. My puppy chewed up my Oliver Peoples and I lost my Maui Jim’s. Living in Florida and with eyes sensitive to light they are my best friends. I end up buying the same pairs over again cause they work. Would love to make a change – and especially be a winner ! Thanks for your generosity~~Mary Lib in Fl.

Kimberleigh M. - Don’t hate me… I cannot get over my love of the 80s standard Raybans. I have a round face and they just suit me so well! I do prefer them in tortoise shell as opposed to jet black, but I can’t give them up. I prefer to think of them as a classic rather than a relic. Come to think of it, that’s kind of how I prefer to think of myself! ;)

Scarlett - Big, fun and funky is what I look for in sunglasses!
My faves right now are from Forever 21—$6! They are trendy and fit my small face/small nose comfortably.
I’ve never had a pair of designer shades. I’d sure love to try them, though!!!

Monica - What I like and what I can afford are 2 different things on SAHM’s budget! :)
I’d love a Chanel or De La Renta pair in a cool retro style but for now I have a pair from Ebay that I love that are tortoise with some tasteful bling on the sides. They fit my face nicely and don’t feel “cheap”. Thanks for the giveaway Jessica.

Danielle - My favorite pair of sunglasses were a pair that I lost last summer. They were a cheap pair of oversized, black sunglasses. I loved the way that they fit my face. Currently I have been looking for a new style of sunglasses, possibly aviators.

Maria - I *had* a favorite pair up until I lost them at Disneyland :( They were very inexpensive and had bought them when I visited New York, but they just fit my face to a T! they kinda faded from dark to light… ah how I miss them… When looking for glasses I go for style, how it suits my face and if they make me happy! after all, no matter if they’re brand name or not, i’m the one that’ll be wearing them!

julie - awesome! i love your free giveaways & i love sunglasses… but don’t have a huge budget for them. my favorite styles are vintagey, oversized ones. my current favorite pair are some cheapies my husband bought me last summer on vacation at the oregon coast. they are big and round and cute. :)

Kimberly L.C. - I’m in love with these Dior knock-offs I bought recently. They’re a bigger frame and really keep the light out.

paula wessells - At the moment my go to pair around home are my Kate Spades (polarized). When traveling to big cities for work I take my Chanels – not only fashionable but like you say, they are great to cover up tired eyes for those 6am flights. I know – who books 6am flights??? talk to my travel agent…for playing around in – biking, hiking, etc I have Kaenons. Love anything that has a polarized lens!

Erin W - What a sweet giveaway. As for sunglasses I did have a pair of Oakley’s with polarized lenses but they were broken at work about 7 years ago. I have been wearing a pair of Arnettes that I bought 6 years ago but just realized the other day that they do not provide me with any real sun protection (I find myself squinting when I wear them and the frames are so 90′s). I have been looking for a pair with larger lenses to cover more of my eye as well as some side protection without any luck (I would like something fashionable too). I went into one store and of the 150 odd pairs I tried on two fit but were out of my price range. I have pretty much given up trying to find the perfect pair or any pair for that matter :(

Emily - I love my Kate Spade shades. They are green tortoise shell with a light aqua rim on the inside. They have this silver circle at both corners with the Kate Spade logo.
Just super fun and flirty. They don’t go with everything…that is only set back. However, I love them to pieces none-the-less.
When buying a new pair, I always look for a pair that compliments my hair and face shape. And as Christian would say…they have to be fierce. :)

AJ - I always stick with brown or black frame ones. I always feel I need to wear the oversize ones. I should be investing in glasses that have UVA/UVB protection. I would love to see which ones you recommend.
Thank you for another GREAT giveaway!
AJ

Karen - I wear contact lenses and my eyes are very sensitive to the sun so I am always inclined to wear sunglasses. I also like the fact that they hold my hair out of my face when not sunny by just propping them on my head. The best pair of sunglasses I ever owned was a pair of Bolle that I purchased during my beach volleyball days. They were very lightweight and I hardly noticed they were on. I also liked them because the lighting was almost brighter and crisper. A new pair of “stylish” sunglasses that fit properly and protect at the same time would be fantastic!!
Karen

Maria - My favorite pair of sunglasses are Vera Wang for Kohls. I loved the fact that I could get stylish sunglasses without spending alot of money. They have a clear/grayish frame and the lenses are just dark enough. They are big but not too big so I don’t feel like they take over my whole face. When looking for new sunglasses I always try and find ones that will work with my contacts….since my eyes seem to be really sensitive to the sun due to my contacts. I try to find ones that are a little darker but not too dark, finding the perfect balance is key. And of course they have to be fun!

Monica - I would love to have sunglasses that really fit me. I hate nearly every pair I try on. The ones I have right now (and I’ve bought them twice, since I lost them and my daughter in a wave and could only grab her and watch as the shades were swept out to sea…) are Ray-Ban and polarized and three years old. In the past two years, I fell in love with a pair of Kate Spades and a pair of D&Gs. Sadly, both were out of my price range.

Kelley - Currently I’m wearing black frames, with a bigger, square-round shape. I like them to be all one piece with no nose-pieces, because I like to slide them up on my head when I’m not wearing them. The nose-pieces get stuck in my hair! I tend to buy lots of cheaper pairs because they get scratched so easily and then I’m on to a new pair. Do my choices flatter my face??? Hmmm…

chellie - I don’t (or haven’t been able to) spend a lot of sunglasses, but I LOVE them. I try them on and pick them out.
My favorite pair right now is a pair my husband randomly bought me from American Eagle– so it’s crazy they are my fav! I love that they are brown, more fashionable than my old ones, and they fit right!
When I am buying a new pair (when I do), I look for durability (as I am an active mom on the go), color (I’m very neutral) and that they have a big enough clearance from eye to eyelashes– as it seems my eyelashes are long and I can’t stand when they hit the lens!
Thanks so much! I love this idea!

Erica Hettwer - I have a few favorites. Right now, my Coach Sarah sunglasses are what I normally wear. I have no idea what kind of sunglasses look good on my face and so I always end up trying on a bunch of different versions of the style I want. I want my sunglasses to look good on my face and have UV protection. I really dislike sunglasses that let the sun in around the edges. Totally defeats the purpose for me! :D

Tracy - To be honest I’ve never owned any sunglasses that amounted to much. But I have to wear them. The sun kills my eyes. I would love to have “nice” pair.

Catherine Schwartz - Love the photos of you in the shades. I love my 2 new pairs that I found at the Forever 21 accessory store…Big, huge, very “Hills” and really make me look better when the hair and makeup aren’t at 100%.
I used to spend lots of $$ on expensive sunglasses, but I am the kinda gal who drops, sits on, loses my eyewear and the latest pairs were only $5.80 a pair!!

Danielle - I have never owned a nice pair of sunglasses. I have a cheap pair that seem to work for now. I love the look of sunglasses..I think it can make your look so much more glamorous. I do have a hard time picking out a pair that I like. I’ll be interested in seeing what the winner receives and hopefully see a pic of them with there new customized glasses! :)

amy VC - Perfect timing! We’re finally seeing some sun here in Oregon.
Mostly I look for color and cover. I like brown tones over black and prefer a larger lens for protection + cool factor. Thanks for being so generous.

Gayle - My favorite pair are the ones that I have now, my ralph laurens. I love the classic look, black.
I’d love a new style, to get to look like a cool mom of 3 young boys! And, if it matches my new coach bag, the better it is!

Shawn - Oh what a fun giveaway! This is just what I need since I wear contacts and are always on the hunt for something to protect my eyes!

Trista Hertz - I bought my current favorites at one of the sunglasses stands at O’Hare last spring, when I was on my way to visit my in-laws with my baby. They are D&G, with a thin tortoise rim. A nice basic. I also have a pair of aviators but I think their proportion is off, so I don’t wear them much. I had a pair of red plastic sunglasses (Lucky Brand Jeans) that I just loved, but they broke beyond repair. Fit and flattering color are how I shop for sunglasses. I would love to find a pair of oversized shades that were just right for me.

cherylp - my favorite pair are my Oakleys. After years of my husband raving about them, he bought me a pair of the women’s version for mt birthday last weekend – they are fabulous! Lightweight, a great color – translucent brown and most importantly – stay on my face! Plus, they are very effective when i am golfing. which we do all summer!

Hil'Lesha - My favorite pair was a pair of aviators I got from DEB for only $1. ~lol~ Then, they magically disappeared. Needless to say, I’m out of shades. I love any that are stylish and looks right on me.

Tracy - I agree that sunglasses can really pull off an outfit. And also, help to hide your face on a Saturday morning coffee run, with no make-up! My favorites are my tortoise shell ones, very large. I love the large glasses!

Carrie in AZ - How fun! I totally agree about the sunglasses. I love sunglasses. And for me, the bigger the better :o ) I love rounded square ones with dark, dark lenses.

Mark Pattison - My favorite pair are my Gucci aviators! They make me think of TOP GUN every time I wear them. I think everyone agrees Ice Man looks hot in shades.

Mary - My favorite pair is my only pair. I’ve had them about four years. My favorite part are the sides – I think they’re pretty stylish. But I’m not sure if the lens shape is really the best for me.

tammy t - Another fun giveaway! My favorite pairs of sunglasses come from Nordstrom’s Brass Plum…you know the $10 a pair. That way I don’t feel bad if I thrash on them! I have about four pairs…and they are all oversized and either black or tortoiseshell. I would love to play with some new ones! Even though I am in rainy Washington I can’t leave the house without them!
t

Hailey - I had a favorite pair, square, dark and big in stlye but small enough to fit my face. Unfortunately I lost them on a vegas trip! When buying a new pair I mainly look for the shape of the frame and how it fits on my face, which is on the smaller side. I love the look of the larger frames but I have to be careful they don’t end up looking ridiculous on me!

Gwen - My favorite pair are the darkest lenses I can find. I LOVE to people watch. So I love sunglasses that are dark and I can people watch behind and not have to worry about them starring back at me!! HAHAHA! It’s makes me feel like a spy! But it’s fun! You feel protected and invincible like no one can see you!

ana - oh, my goodness…sunglasses!! i love them! and have several that i call “favourite”. Depending on what “style” i am going for that day, i will choose different sunglasses. My go-to glasses (if i’m undecided) are always my “big ones”…very similar to the top photo of you in this post. They go with almost every style of clothing and are so comfortable!
When i get to go shopping…(so much fun) i love looking for a “new style” that i have not yet tried! Different shape, different colour, different brand…always looking for great avaitors!

Melissa - Sunglasses for me come from Target. I have little time to try on with a 4 year old boy who wants to try them on too. :)
I don’t have a clue on how to buy sunglasses (didn’t know there was a certain way) I just know I have sensitive eyes and don’t do well without sunglasses on.
So, I buy what fits and go!

Mel-B - My favorite pair of sunglasses *were* a pair of Christian Dior–I believe the style was ADIORable. Everytime I put them on I felt like a rock star–maybe it was because of the small stars on the temple. Unfortunately, my home was burgularized on Christmas Eve and they have not been recovered. Thus, I am on the lookout for a new pair now that summer has arrived! When buying a new pair I usually have something in mind that I have seen in magazines–on my mind right now is a great pair of Tom Ford glasses. There are so many styles to fit all face shapes and they are not over-the-top-wild with logos all over the place like some designers. Plus, you can never go wrong with fashion from Italy!

lacy - Sunglasses, Ah geeze. I love the way that they look on other people but I have to hardest time telling what looks good on me. I have had the same pair of all black Prada shades since 2000. I know, ouchie! Is that bad? LOL You can see I am a worthy project.
Also where are you standing when you do Today’s Fashion? Are those framed Album Covers? Love that wall!

Melinda - Hi Jessica,
I have the same Chloe pair that you are wearing the top photo, and they are my favorite pair. They just feel so good on, and I love they are subtle yet unusual and the moment I put them on I loved them. I have a small nose (so nothing much for glasses to rest on) and a face that is rounder if I’m carrying a few extra pounds and squarer when I’m not…and glasses always look different depending. So, I’m constantly searching for the perfect, stylish, pair that still works with all my facial requirements.
Cheers,
Melinda

Emily S - My favorite pair is a navy pair from SJP’s Bitten line.
For me, sunglasses must slope in the right places to properly cup my face with very little “gap” to let sunlight in — if that makes sense!
Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Nicole - I don’t have a favourite pair of sunglasses… I haven’t had any at all for about 12 years. A friend of mine is trying to talk me into buying some this year.

sara - Hi Jessica
My current favorite pair are a brand unknown pair from VonMaur (not sure if you’ve heard of VonMaur–similar to Macy’s). Anyway, they work and they look fairly good. This might sound crazy but one of the key factors is if they don’t pull my hair (because they are on my head as much or more than they are on my eyes) so this usually means no nose piece thingies. I also must make sure they are comfortable on my ears. Lastly, I never get mirrored lenses….for some reason I always lean toward the lenses that show my eyes a little bit. Lately I’ve been wondering if I could pull off some aviators?? My guess is no.
I so hope I win! I’d promise to take great care of them and never sit on them or leave them on top of my car!
PS…If you don’t already know about these…I think you should check out these two children’s books:
This Little Piggy Went to Prada
Different Like Coco
They’d be perfect for you to give as baby/ kid birthday gifts or just a special gift for Jeffrey’s granddaughters. They are cute as can be.

Stephanie - I am on the lookout for a new pair and could benefit from some help! My face is round and I have high cheekbones which makes some of the really stylish ones (that I’d love to have!) look odd on me. It’s easy to get overwhelmed because there are so many to choose from. Help – we need a tutorial!

Christy Pair - I love sunglasses from the protection point of view- my husband won’t wear them and it drives me nuts! As I have an infant, I look for durability! Right now I do not have a favorite pair- I cannot decide what shape my face is!

Andrea - I have a pair of Maui Jim’s. I bought them two years ago, so they seem a bit small now; I want to get a bigger pair, but they are pretty pricey.
I love that they are polarized, which I think is a necessity, and I love the warranty that Maui Jim. My friend’s toddler tore the arm off them, and I got a new pair, free of charge!
I like my sunglasses to be stylish, but also top quality, to ensure that my eyes and skin around the eyes are protected, while I look ok!

Becky - I am making a major lifestyle change. Transferring from UT to Vanderbilt, and I need a wardrobe overhaul.

Renee' - Hi,
I have a great Versace pair that I’ve had for several years…they’re prescription sunglasses, but they’re still fun and super comfy to wear :)
Thanks!

erika - I am actually on the search for a new pair, I am currently using a pair I picked up at Target to keep my eyes protected from the california sun.
I had a great Gucci pair, they were stylish and I loved them so much I got a prescription put in….sadly they are pretty scratched up and do more damage to my eyes than good.
I hope I love the next pair as much.

Michelle D - I have had the same pair of glasses for several years now – Coach. I still like them but would LOVE another pair. This is fun, I hope I win! Thanks!

Melanie - I love sunglasses! But I never seem to buy nice ones because they get lost or broken. My current pair is a neutral brown color with a squarish shape.
I’ve been drooling over the Dita Supadupa pair I’ve seen on some Hollywood stars. I just love how sunglasses can really make you look sassy and glam!

Jennie W. - I just love my oversize, very Jackie-O inspired pair of tortoiseshell Kate Spade glasses. I bought them at one of Nordstrom’s Anniversary sales, and they are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I do have to say that I’m love with the new Tom Ford line of sunglasses and may have to purchase a pair this summer.
By the way, your giveaways rock!
Thanks so much!

Shelly in the NW - my favorite sunglasses are Oakleys they last long and they look great and most important to me they are functional and fashionable.
My favorite pair are the ‘flak jacket’ style that you can change out the lenses. my fav lenses are bright yellow/mirror type i think they call them: Fire Iridium. I like these because i can look around and people can’t see my eyes :) I do like them too because they give enough coverage without HUGE raccoon-eye syndrome (Something i’m absolutely for as i just crested ’40′ and still have no crows feet to speak of) which i get around the pool.
For this season i’m thinking of going more ‘stylish’ than sporty and getting the Oakley Ravishing model – the name is enough to sell me and i like the ‘big’ look.

Kelly - I can’t function without my sunglasses. Favorite pair – a pair of small-ish Ray-Bans, polarized. I have managed to hang on to them for over a year. I can’t say they are the most fashionable, but as long as they cover my eyes, they work for me. Oh, they also need to hold my hair back when I go inside :)

Courtney - Sunglasses can make or break an outfit. They are the perfect accessary for a summer outfit! I like to think about my sunglasses just as the way I think about a piece of jewelry. My jewelry makes me feel good and so do my sunglasses. My jewelry changes with each outfit and so do my sunglasses. My mood dictates the choices I make in fashion. Do I want to be bold and bright or soft and sweet. My sunglasses help me to be bold and bright or soft and sweet. That is my criteria for picking my sunglasses each day and when I buy them at the store.

Barb @ getupandplay - I agree that it’s fun to have a few different pairs for different moods, outfits, and occasions! I have a pair of huge aviators that I got in London that make me feel kind of tough and kick-ass. I had to mourn the loss of my favorite sunglasses last summer, they were big, squarish shaped and were two-toned black rims and white sides. Sounds weird but they were cool and feminine. I have a hard time finding glasses that fit my face shape, so when I do, I usually buy two pairs (needless to say, these are not usually spendy designer brands.)

katrina lauren - a few years back i found a pair on summer holidays that by some miracle i have not
a) lost
b) broke/scratched
i love them because they have a old hollywood feel {think breakfast at tiffany’s…oh Audrey}and when i put them on i feel kinda glamorous…what girl doesn’t love that? I like having polorized lenses, sun protection, a good fit….and a great style {with just the right amount of glam/sexy factor}
Cheers!
Kat

Aimee - My favorite & only pair are from “Tar-je’” ! I try sunglasses on all the time but I can’t figure out what looks the best on me.
Aimee

Lauren - That’s funny—I was just thinking today, as I was driving in the car, how glamourous I feel in sunglasses. My favorite pair—ahem—is from a very stylish place known as Target, and I chose them in an attempt to look cooler than I really am. So your help would be much appreciated, Jessica! :)

Dawn - I don’t have a favorite pair, but I wish I could wear them at work sometimes to cover my tiredness! =) I’ve been wanting a pair of aviators, but can’t seem to find a pair that looks right on my face…

Carrie - You are too sweet and generous, Jessica! What a neat idea.

Katie - My favorite pair are from Halston. I love how it fits perfectly on my face. Being a mother with four kids (ages 3,8,11, and 13) my sunglasses makes me feel chic and a hip-mom. Living here in Florida, it’s almost a must to have a good pair of sunglasses, along with sunblock LOL! I look more at style, than at comfort & fit.

bunny - Oh, wow! Just what I absolutely need! A pair of sunnies!! :) I lost my old pair a year ago and have been without sunnies ever since! I love the big ones that make me look glamorous as soon as put them on!! Thank you so much for the chance :)
xx

Linda - I look for polarized lenses, and a pair that fits…I have some issues getting a good fit as I have a slightly wide face with a small nose bridge…
I don’t really have a favourite pair – I guess, technically, my favourite pair would be the one I haven’t lost or damaged yet!! (I tend to prop them on the top of my head…and then usually bump my head on something…I know, klutzy.

Danielle - My favorite pair of sunglasses were my Smith’s. I am very active and they were great for running, but also fit my oval face well and looked cool enough to wear everyday. I also have a cheap (under $10!) pair from Brass Plum at Nordstroms which look like Ray Ban Aviators. I was inspired to buy them after reading my latest US Weekly and coveting all the trendy designer sunglasses the stars wear.

Jennifer - I buy sunglasses that are big and have maximum protection from the sun’s rays. This gives the best protection to eyes and the delicate skin around them.

Katie - Do you have a favorite pair?
Yes, it’s a no-brand pair that my husband won at a tradeshow (sounds awful, but they’re great!)
What is it about them that you love?
They sit well on my face. I have small features so it’s rare that glasses stay put. Plus, they wrap around a bit – a necessity for me!
And what do you look for when buying a new pair?
First and foremost that they wrap around a bit, so they dont’ obscure my peripheral vision, plus I wear contacts and that bit of wrap gives me some eye protection. Also, nothing too big because my features are on the small side, so it’s easy to overwhelm my face.
Oh, I yearn for a designer pair that fits the bill, but I’m at a loss because the requirements above always make me look sporty, not fashion-forward!

Leanne - I have a new pair of Ralph Lauren Sunglasses that I just bought this year. They are prescription sunglasses. I cannot wear contacts and missed sunglasses for so many years. Transitions and clip-ons just aren’t the same. I hate wearing glasses so my sunglasses are my favorite part of summer right now. It is hard to find prescription lenses that can go into fun sunglasses frames

Jenny - One of my favorite things about sunglassess is all of the styles and colors they come in. I don’t think any girl should have just one pair. They should reflect your style and personality. When you put them on they should make you feel bold and important :) My favorite pair are tortoise shell, a bit oversized, and pink on the inside rim! They are heavenly!

Theresa - I haven’t purchased sunglasses for the past two summers and it’s high time for me to do such…I wear them every day, in the car, walking around, at the golf course…even in the office when I’m going through a migraine attack (work in politics, so I often don’t have the luxury of taking a break for them)!
My favorite pair at the moment are my old-school Ray-Ban Wayfarers that I bought in my senior year of high school (1990!). I discovered them when helping my mom re-organize her closet – they are just as wonderful as they were when I first wore them, and thank God that they’re back in style! Sunglasses can be a bit of a challenge for me as I am half-Korean and a lot of pairs slip off of my face.

Jennifer - A favorite pair, well…I end up losing them so often that I have to buy a couple each summer. It’s sad. My current pair is one I bought at the Grand Canyon. I like either black or brown as it goes with my hair color and I just plain like black.
I like glasses that cover my eyes completely. I love the look of skinny glasses but they don’t cover my eyes, so what’s the point? I always and I mean always buy polarized lens’s. It cuts the glare from the sun and the amount of bright light that hits your eyes. Not to mention it makes everything you see much more saturated and beautiful.
Um…that’s about it for me.

Lauren - Would you believe that at 25 I have never ever owned a pair of sunglasses? I’ve worn glasses since I was little, and up until about a year ago I didn’t know that you could get Rx’s put into regular looking sunglasses. So now my issue is finding some that I like enough. I look forward to not having to squint anymore!

Jackie - Shopping for sunglasses can be a frustrating process for me just because you try one pair after another, usually relying on your shopping partner for advice! I don’t have a favorite pair, but one I like. I like it b/c it’s “fashionable” but something I’m still comfortable wearing (it’s not too far out there). I look for something that makes me feel a little bit glamorous when I put it on! Thanks for the opportunity to win this!

liz - I look for glass lenses becuase unless you are REALLY cruel to your shades, they will not scratch like plastic lenses will in your bag full of keys etc. However, they will shatter upon serious impact…but who’s throwing thier favorite sunglasses against a brick wall?

christa - I buy cheep too because I (for some odd reason) always end up breaking mine. It doesn’t matter how much care I give them, I just always break them. I have a cheapo pair from kohl’s and they are the black bug eye ones (hehe) wi th some rhinestones on the side. I also have a pair of the iridescent/clear frames but I find that they don’t hide the sun as well as the black ones….
I just love sunglasses. They are so much fun to wear and if its bright out enough to wear them then thats a good thing!

Brooke - Oh….I would just cry with happiness if I won this, I have the hardest time finding sunglasses that look good on me!! My favorite pair is just a cheapie pair from Charlotte Russe, they look decent on me, the best I’ve found so far but I don’t get much time to look having 3 young boys always with me!! I would love to have a glamourous black pair that would look fab on me!! Love your blog!!

Amanda - I buy cheap because I have glasses and very rarely wear my contacts.

jenn - I wear glasses, so they have transitions in them. My issue I’m not sure what to wear when I don’t have my glasses on. I don’t wear them when I go to the beach, or hang out by our pool. So I need to start thinking about that and find something that suits my face. I’ve always had just sporty oakly’s :)

Kathleen Bing - Ooo I love sunglasses. In all honesty, most of my sunglasses are pretty inexpensive as I am the type of person to take them off and leave them some place. I love BIG sunglasses and pretty much the only thing I look at when I shop for sunglasses is how they look on me (I know i should probably lie and say I make sure they are good UV shields or whatever)! I will admit though that once 2 years ago, someone stole my safety goggles from my chemistry drawer in college, and instead of missing the lab and having to make it up, I convinced my professor to let me wear a pair of rhinestone aviators. For three hours.

Lindsey - I like aviators (have Ray Bans right now) because they don’t hit my lashes or my cheeks. Plus they are super light and comfortable if you wear them for a long period of time.

Lindsay - I look for sunglasses that are large so they block out more sun. I read in a book (How to Not Look Fat by Danica Lo) that larger sunglasses will give the illusion that you are smaller! I don’t know about that, but I just like the look of larger sunglasses. I like to look for vintage styling, shapes or details. I really like Kate Spade sunglasses, and for “cheaper” sunglasses I like Steve Madden and Nine West. But as I get older, I realize it’s important to have a quality lense that really protects your eyes from the UV rays.

leslie - hello again. i love all your sunglasses. so big. so stylish. and they really suit you. i need a fashionable pair indeed. my favorite pair are smiths. the lenses are important to me. polarized. so perfect for seeing through. but my glasses are kind of normal. that i can wear everyday. that can flip onto the top of my head easily. and i have road biking glasses. with changeable lenses. but i need a cute pair. a stylish pair. yes, i do.

Jeanette - I could be a challenge for you, given my square-shaped face. I know it’s a challenge for me to find the appropriate pair of sunglasses and sometimes spend hours trying on many pairs.
My other downfall is I lose sunglasses from time-to-time. I had a great pair of Yves St. Laurent glasses that I adored but lost them somewhere between Costco and the grocery store one day. They were hanging from my shirt.
I then purchased a pair of Chanel sunglasses that were the perfect shape for my face but the plastic that covered the metal rim around there used to getangled in my hair everytime I took them off.
I am now wearing a pair of Brighton tortoise-shell sunglasses that wear comfortably on my face but I don’t like the way they look.
Even if I do not win this contest, I would love your feedback on an appropriate pair of sunglasses for this square face of mine. :)

Ksea Cantonwine - I wear prescription glasses that have the magnetic ‘clippies’ to them. I keep the ‘clippies’ in my car so I do not lose them.
Although that might change soon. I am looking at purchasing a pair of Juicy Couture prescription sunglasses. I am having a hard time deciding on what style to get, though. I can only find them online and you can’t try the glasses on, obviously. =)

michelle - I don’t have a favorite pair of sunglasses. I have a small face, so it is difficult to find a pair that doesn’t overwhelm my face. I live in sunny Dallas, so sunglasses are important here.

andie - i love sunglasses…but can’t war them when i work (as a photographer) because i can’t see the colors as well. I did have a pair of Maui Jim’s that i adored…..they were lost in a hurricane (don’t ask….) right now i have a pair of black Jackie-o style glasses that i like but i am dying for a pair of aviator’s. oh to to answer the question…
favorite pair? Maui Jim’s
love them? because they were polarized
what i look for: cuteness factor, comfy behind my ears.

Kal Barteski - I love sunglasses because I can become someone else. I am tougher than myself in my sporty ones. I am more glamourous than myself in my fancy glasses. I am cooler than myself in my beach glasses. I have a terrible face for sunglasses – and I am the least fashionable person out there… evenstill – I am always on the lookout for the very best match for my face. The protection for my eyes is a must.
But, it really doesn’t hurt to look cool.

kelly - ugh..I wish I had a fav. pair of sunglasses..I keep looking and looking. The ones I am wearing right now are from of all places WALMART!! We had a super sunny day back in Feb. w/ the snow on the ground I needed something. Perfect pair…well you would look great and protect your eyes!!
You have a beautiful life!!

Kath - Great giveaway!
I only have one pair of sunglasses…a pair of Ray-Bans that were a gift for my birthday last year. Brown with polarized lenses!
Thanks, Jessica.

{vicki} - I have tons of cheap sunglasses because I am always losing, scratching, breaking and warping them. So I just can’t bring myself to put alot of money into a pair. When buying a new pair I get something that fits the mood I’m in at the time.
I LOVE SUNGLASSES!!!!!!!!!
{vicki}

kayla - I have been looking for a new pair of sunglass. I still have a pair that I got 3 years ago. I am short and little, so I dont like the real big ones just the ones that look great and fit my face.

Valerie - My favorite pair right now are from Anthropologie. They have a retro look to them which I love, and that is usually part of the deciding factor, being retro-styled. I’ve never owned a very expensive pair because I’ve always been worried about losing them, although I haven’t lost any sunglasses before.
Thanks for such a fun giveaway — I love reading your blog!

Shelly D. - I don’t really have a fav pair. I have some magnetic ones that go over my prescription glasses. Since I got my contacts, I just have some frames that used to be prescription, but aren’t anymore. They are polarized and I love that. I’m in Florida too, and sunglasses are a necessitiy!!

Heather - FUN!
OK so what I look for in sunglasses is for them to not have outside hinges that will pull and grab on my hair when I put them up on my head (headband style). Then I try to make sure I am choosing polarized ones with glass lenses (plastic scratches WAAAYY too easily) and once I have the field narrowed down I go for the cutest ones I can find (most of the time since I have dark hair I opt for darker frames). I love little extras like embellishments and fun oversized frames too!
My favorite pair right now are by “Peppers” I found them at a boating store in Los Angeles while there with my Dad! They are polarized tortoise frames with rhinestones on the sides!

islandjen - Oddly enough my favorite pair of sunglasses are ones that I bought almost 7 years ago by Roxy. They have rhinestones on the edges…people always called them my “rockstar” sunglasses!
When buying sunglasses I first make sure they will protect my eyes…that’s the most important to me, especially living in Florida…next is shape and wether it compliments my face.

Fashion Challenge.

I received this email from Chellie: I am 5’8″ and weigh about 132. I wear size 8. I’m 30 years old and have 9, 3, and 1 year old… so I’m a mom. I’m headed to Mexico the second week of June, it will be in the 90′s. We’re going to a small fishing town…

Thanks again, Chellie
P.S. Not only are you beautiful… you’re awesome!

Sleep and Emails.

(Catching Z’s by Robert Deyber) This holiday weekend has been the perfect amount of time I needed to rest and sleep, get caught up on emails, and organize. Belen and Lourdes and I spent a little night on the town Friday night after dinner at Super Nikko – a Las Vegas reunion in a way….

paula wessells - Hey Jessica – love the dress and bought something similar. What shoes are you wearing with it? I might go to the website and check out his dress!

jessica - Hi Melanie,
The dress is Adam Lippes. He’s the nicest guy. Here’s a link to a post I wrote about his designs – he sent me a personal email to say thanks!
http://jessicamcdougall.blogs.com/jessica_mcdougall/2008/02/adam-lippes.html
Enjoy!
Jessica

Melanie - I love your tie-dye inspired dress! Can you tell me where it’s from?

jessica - Hi Tina,
Thank you for visiting and for the nice compliment. Jeffrey is my partner, my best friend, and my boss. I met him at a seminar he gave in the Seattle area (where I’m from). I work hard to make money to afford the fashion items I love and I consider each item an investment that will one day represent an amazing collection of my style. I don’t have plans to marry – I’d like to think that I’ll remain independent forever. But I cannot predict the future – and I’ve discovered that you really never know what’s right around the corner. Yes, Jeffrey does have a brother – but he is in a happy relationship and I don’t believe he considers himself ‘available.’
Cheers to you!
Jessica

Tina Hager - My girlfriend Lindsey forwarded me this blog. I must admit you are very beautiful. I think it is cool you get to do a lot and spend tons of money on clothes and stuff.
I assume you are dating the older guy on here too? How did you meet? Are you going to marry him someday? Does he have a brother?

Handbags.

I received a note from Sundee that read: I just started reading your blog a short time ago and I have not seen you write much or show much in the way of handbags. Do you have any favorite styles? Do you change up the style based on what you’re wearing? I have quite a…

jenn - I have the “mom” bag. I love handbags. I have lots, but they seem to gather toys and we’re not talking like baby toys. Gameboys, kids Ipods, my phone, wallet, keys, make up and then some emergency kid snacks too! lol
I love my one smaller one :) Probably because I can’t carry the mom gear in it ;)

Paulette Sarsfield - OK. The zippered bag in your purse is so darn smart!!! I used to do that with my swim bag & it didn’t even register to do it with my purse! You are brilliant Jessica! Thanks for sharing!

tammy t - Thanks for all the links Jessica….off to find a zipper bag. And I just think this is the most brilliant solution….my bag already has some gloss smears and pen marks here and there!
t

Jeanette - I stick to the same bag too. I don’t change very often although I’d like to. I do love your idea of the zippered bag to keep your essentials in and may give that a try.
Currently my favorite handbag is by Be & D. The leather is super soft and the bag is nice and roomy, which is what I need.

noell - Jessica, was this zippered bag intended for easy purse-switching? I’ve wanted to do something like this so that I will feel more free to buy more purses/handbags but I don’t know where you find things like this. I’m also afraid of buying one too small for my stuff or too big for my purses.

Barb @ getupandplay - I’m still in the student phase of life, so I the only switching I find myself doing is from my “school” bag(s) to my weekend bag(s)! I would love some hints about stylish but functional totes, messenger bags, laptop carriers that could work in a casual setting like a classroom to tote all my books, etc!

Camille - I so agree with Carrie and Amanda. I too tend to get stuck using the same bag for too long because of all the “switching and re-positioning” all of my stuff.
***Brilliant solution***!!
Just went bag shopping today and am gonna hit one more place I have good luck with. Now I’ll look for a small zippered bag as well.
Thanks so much!

tammy t - Love the idea of rotating bags and try to do it, esp. with the season. My fav right now is my black Cole Hawn…but looking to get something that would be more fun for the summer. Can I ask where you bought the zippered bag?! That is a perfect solution for switching around. And love that it keeps the handbag is good shape.
My wished for bag would be an Hermes Kelly bag. I love looking at Decades blog to see what they have come thru. Someday…
t

Carrie - Love the tip on how you store your necessities to make switching easier. That’s an excuse I often use for carrying the same bag all the time.

Amanda - I do love purses and would love a Chanel, but I can never justify the price. I tend to use the same one for awhile because I have so much junk in my purse that I’m always afraid I would forget something. I like the idea of having a smaller bag with essentials inside a bigger bag.

Amy - I love big bags like the one you have in the last picture, because having two small kids it helps carrying diapers/wipes and sippy cups without having to carry an ugly diaper bag. My favorite bag is my Rival tote bag from Longchamp…

Las Vegas.

Wow. Belen, Lourdes, Rebekah, and I had such a fun weekend in Las Vegas.A little time to relax. A lot of time to play. And having Heather (right) there to do our hair and makeup each night really made it special. Heather is a gem with incredible talent. Thank you, Heather. We love you!Over the course…
