Family Guy.

Jeffrey and I have gotten some of the best belly laughs watching this show!

elisa - I am a bad mom and let my boys watch this show- It is just so stinkin’ funny.
Our latest fave is the “coo whip” episode.

jeffrey - This is one of your best posts, OVER!

Heather V - LMAO…so do we. You must see the chicken episode. Classic!!

Silvia - This reminds me of the movie Hitch. This conversation is over over!

Claudia - “Family Guy” is indeed one of the funniest shows out there! The humor, satire, and parodies are THE BEST!

MNScrapbookmom - Kyra - Yes, my husband and I have also had many laughs over Family Guy. Interesting show… and often brilliant in a way that I just cannot describe. ¥

Little Traveler.

One of the things most on my mind lately is getting back into travel. I miss the newness of every day on the road. I miss the hustle and bustle of getting from point A to point B.I miss the people watching. And I miss getting to be with Jeffrey every day. I want to…

Stacy - The easiest kid travel is when they’re infants. In the early months, I’d bring the baby on the plane swaddled like a little burrito. We would nurse during take off and she would be out like a light. I could hold her in one arm and hold a book in the other. Easy-breezy.
Now, toddler travel, that is a different story. Once your baby starts crawling and walking and finding it torturous to sit still, that’s when plane travel becomes more of an ordeal. Travel as much as you can during the immobile period. For the first six months, they don’t move, you don’t have to bring food, they can sleep most anywhere, and it is so easy to just wear them around. I assume you have a lovely looking sling or carrier, right?

Alison - Jessica – have you ever heard of the website http://www.polyvore.com? it’s this really cool site that allows you to build outfits/looks by dragging and dropping different stuff and creating a whole canvas full. I just started using it and thought you might get a kick out of it. Good luck with the baby’s arrival!

cam - Hi Jessica, I just read all these comments and I had to chime in. These are all wonderful convenience concerns, but what about safety? I may have misunderstood, but checking a carseat, while proving convenient, is terribly unsafe. A newborn, infant, toddler, ought to have a seat of his or her own, and buckled in. In the event of enough turbulence or worse, you cannot possibly hold on to your precious child – and the precious child gets hurt. Would you “fly” down the highway without it? Of course not. I know it is “legal” to have babies without a seat of their own, but that is not in the best interest of the child, in my opinion. Also, as a warning – I used a Baby Bjorn once, thinking I could save some money and it made good sense, but the pilot himself came to me before take-off to tell me this practice is illegal. You cannot have a baby “tied” to you in any form. Now, whether or not this is actually law, or airline policy – its worth looking into. Also, if it is allowed, look into the reasons this may not be allowed in some instances, because there could be a safety concern that us land-folk (non-pilots) may not be aware of. I didn’t check into it. I promptly paid for a seat for my little one, and we were off (thankfully they had one available!) And I’ve paid for a seat for my children ever since. They’re worth it. :)

Shelbie - Hi! I’ve travelled with my now almost 2 year old quite a bit and it’s not difficult if you check the stroller and carseat. Don’t bother tryint to haul them around the terminal. Ditto on taking extra clothes for you and baby. I’ve needed a clean shirt several times. Another friend gave me a bit of advice on the nursing during take-off/landing and said to beware that if the baby is latched on and you hit turbulence you may get bit and it’s not a pleasant experience if you can avoid it. I always boarded as soon as they would let me and I nursed my guy until we were out to the runway and then I gave him a paci for take-off. I did the same thing before landing if he needed more to eat and then I planned time on the other side to sit and give him a good feeding when we arrived if needed. It sounds like you are such a seasoned traveller you probably already have tons of great tips and you will find what works the best for you and your little one. Those babies do a great job of training their parents. :) Good luck to you!

Maryn - When my daughter was an infant, I took her everywhere with me and it was always just me and her and a sling and an extra-large purse or backpack. Never worrying about struggling with a stroller or a giant diaper bag really made it easy for us to just GO. I never found myself lacking something I needed because I packed simply but carefully. Granted, there were times when I found a diaper in my purse when I got to work, but it was totally worth it not to have to struggle with a purse and a diaper bag all the time.
She was always close to me and at eye level with adults, in a sling at first and later in a Baby Bjorn, so she could see lots of things and still feel cozy and safe next to me. I think that contributed to her being very well-behaved as a baby and to how good she is now, at almost seven.

Simone - Hey Jessica,
I´m a stewardess and the best advise I could give is:
Always pack extra outfits for the whole family in your handluggage!!!
I don´t know how many babies and kids I saw which were sick and vomited (sorry…)on theirselves and Mommy or Daddy.
Imagine this on the beginning of a long trip…
(Since I have kids I needed it two times)
I´m sure your little one will be a frequent and happy flyer pretty soon.
Best wishes
Simone

lacy - Oh how completely exciting! You already have the best travel advice and experience I can’t wait to see what this will teach you, I know that we will all be excited to see the tips later! ps- love love love the green dress on you! SO CUTE!

Linda - We have nine children and we have traveled extensively with all of them. One of the perks of having a husband who began his professional career as a pediatrician is his expertise with tiny ones. His best advise for traveling with an infant is one our ENT has echoed…pediatric neosenephrine. It opens the tubes and prevents the ear tubes from collapsing and causing pain on take off and landing. They both also recommended nursing or a bottle at both times….and it must work for our kiddos have always dealt with both events without pain or tears.
My second advise is….nurture the love of a lovie…be it a favorite stuffed animal or soft blanket…and buy multiples of the item. (Make certain you rotate the multiples through, so that each one “smells” and “feels” right.) As a former pediatric nurse. I can not over state how important lovies are. There are moments when Mom or Dad can not be with a child…a trip to the OR for eartubes is one such common event, and lovies provide the security you want your child to have. Travel with one tucked in your diaper bag and one in the suitcase. Having taken off from O’hare and landed and Hawaii only to arrive at the hotel and discover white bunny was left on the plane….this one tip saved our trip.
I echo the advise of packing entire outfits in a ziplock bag. It will make your life easier in more ways than you ever imagined. (BTW ziplock bags make great barf bags…and portable potty chairs in a pinch…trust me on this.)

Cindy - I travel with my infant son quite a bit. The best tip I can give you is to feed your baby during take off and landing. This will encourage swallowing to help with the ear pressure. Also – Pack your childs complete outfit in a large ziplock bags. (socks/shoes included) This will help keep your luggage tidy and make for quick and easy dressing time. I also recommend packing outfits like this in your diaper bag. Then you will always have an empty bag to put soiled or dirty clothes when you have to make an outfit change away from the hotel. I recommend carring a blanket from home along with you. I like to find a quite carpeted corner in a airport lounge or coffee shop and spread the blanket out on the floor with a few small toys. This helps to allow my son to stretch out and relax a bit before the next leg of our journey. Hope these help.

jenn - I love the finger puppets! You’ll ace the traveling with an infant! ;) You’ll be a pro at it in no time :)

Lourdes.

Belen and I arranged a delightful dinner gathering to wish Lourdes goodbye before she moves to California in March. She has met a wonderful man and is making the move to be with him there. I used a pink theme for the tablescape and made name cards with paint stamps for the chairs. These Martha…

Jeanette - Now that is what I call a fabulous nursery. Very avant garde. (Although my vote is for a Mobil Pegasus piece of memorabilia vs. Texaco). ;=)
