We had such a wonderful and incredible and inspiring journey to Europe. But I can't tell you how great it is to be home. I'm helping Gabrielle adjust back to East Coast time and finding that the following things are helping both of us! Bare feet in the grass (this is her first time). Great…

The final stop of our Europe trip was Venice. Wow – it's such a feast for the eyes. We had a wonderful time walking around – soaking it all in. Couldn't pass up taking a picture of this. Gabrielle helping Jeffrey pick out leather gloves at the glove shop. And the licorice was amazing. Everywhere…

Love the pics!!! I so want to go their sometime! Someday
Hi Avital, I think you should!
I do admit after returning back to our hotel that night I was overwhelmed by what we saw – and didn’t know how to pinpoint the feeling I had for it. It’s unreal to think of the history of it. But I really enjoyed its uniqueness. I’m just glad we didn’t have to take all our luggage onto a boat because we stayed at a hotel right at the airport!
Thanks for visiting!
Jessica
Funny. Venice was not my favorite city among my numerous trips to Italy (I love this magical country). However, after seeing your photos and reading your snippets I would like to revisit Venice
We left Paris for Italy and set up camp in Vicenza, where Jeffrey gave a seminar to 1,400 plus fans. Such incredible energy in a room like this. He did an amazing job. The day before his seminar, we were whisked away on a road trip to Florence. Gabrielle was all smiles during the car…

Great pictures, thx for sharing
SO many many beautiful captures from your trip….and posts that will be a memory for gabrielle in years to come…I’ve loved traveling with you.
But did you see Vicenza? It’s beautiful! At least the historic section & maybe not the area where the conference was held.
I love your pictures, and all the details you seem to capture. I just love coming to your blog and finding new pictures and stories. Cheers! Josefina.
what great pictures. I knew you’d have a wonderful trip, thanks for sharing so much of it on your website.
Our last day in Paris could not have been more perfect. I started the day with an early morning walk with Gabrielle and saw this. And saw this. And saw this. All on our way to the incredible Little Fashion Gallery Which can be found behind the big blue door at 3 Rue du Jour….

For someone who has only ever travelled out of Canada, a few times to the US, thanks for sharing your trip Jessica…. and a piece of the world with me.:)
Could you share the name or location of the ribbon store? We’ll be heading to Paris next year and I’d love to stop by to feed my ribbon addiction. Thanks!
These have been great entries! I really feel like I got to visit Paris in the spring — thank you!
Thank you for sharing your lovely trip to Paris!!!!!!! what a treat:)
One of the other things on my must-do Paris list was to see a puppet show in the Left Bank's Luxembourg Gardens. We made it just in time for Pinocchio. Gabrielle was just a little too little to ride the carousel – so we sat and watched from the sideline instead. I almost died when…

Our next super Paris adventure was to the flea markets. We started the rainy morning at a local street one in the South of the city and then drove up to the big Marche aux Puces St-Ouen de Clignancourt. This place is miles and miles and miles of treasures. Loved that there was lots of…

Gabrielle and I had a wonderful Moi et ma Fille (me and my daughter) outing in Paris while Jeffrey headed to the flea markets with his fan and guide, Michael. The primary destination of our adventure was the Bonpoint Concept Store. Such a delightful place. And I'm so happy we took the 30 or so…

can’t tell you how much I’m lovin these captures jessica…just wonderful! so much fun to travel right with you. That last one with gabrielle … darling
Wonderful photos and i love your hat!
And one more time i think: you have an eye for the details, in other people, in a city and all around you! Thats why i love your blog!
What a delightful day together. You must be packed with precious memories.
You know your a Mama…when a kindness to your child turns a very nice place…into a memory maker. The Four Seasons in Chicago brought our daughter a plate of warm chocolate chip cookes and milk in a cup that resembed a pink rose just opening. I don’t recall a great number of details from the rest of the trip without the effort of memory…but, I recall the cookies and milk.
Have a wonderful time!
ohhhhh…i just love paris. what a wonderul way to spend her birthday.
So lovely…I’m sure you could have wandered around Bonpoint all day!
I love that the hotel left her a gift, too. And that you are there together. I love these photographs… make me want to spend more one-on-one time with each girl.

great photos. the last one is amazing! i see it blown up really big and framed.
We took my son to Paris for his 6th birthday and we dedicated the day to him. It was really fun seeing Paris through his eyes.
If you have the opportunity, I recommend visiting the Jardin du Luxembourg. They have a park for the children but the best part is the very classic puppet show right next to the playground. So very french. We were the only Americans there; the theatre was filled with Parisian families enjoying the puppet show.
Enjoy Paris, Gabrielle!
Wow. Just wow.

Happy Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
I remember the first time your Mom and Dad brought you into Corners. I just remember thinking what an adorable little girl! You are so sweet and you absolutely melt my heart when I look at pictures of you and your parents and I see just how happy you make your Mom and Dad. They are two of the most generous and grateful people I have ever met. You are one lucky little lady! Let’s see …. what advice could I give you? You should know that knowing what you want means nothing unless you go after it. On that note, always follow your dreams and listen to your heart and you should be one happy girl!
Happy 1st Birthday! Always be graceful and kind to others even when they are not. And it will come back to you.
Smile, it makes everything better…
Happy Birthday!!!
~S
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! And a happy day for your mom and dad!
My Life lesson:
“Elegance starts in Mind” or in german:
“Eleganz beginnt im Geiste!”
It’s a lesson my grandma gave me and she means: you can have beautiful clothes or a beautiful face, when you treating other people or the world ugly, your not a beautiful girl.
All my best wishes to your little girl!
Is that the same lipstick you have been wearing recently? Whatever lipstick it is, it looks fabulous on you.
My lesson for Gabrielle would be for her to follow her heart. For everything from what she wants to eat, to what she decides will be her profession. Follow your heart and you will not be disappointed. [Following your gut is a close second.]
happy birthday, Gabrielle!
mine in more of a mantra from my grandmother…
always remind yourself:
You can do anything!!
hugs and love,
A.

I guess my advice would be to always listen to your inner voice, be kind, and enjoy the moment while you are in it.
Happy first birthday sweet girl!!! Looks like it was one to remember – glad there are wonderful photos full of love for you to look at when you are a bit older.
Hmmmmm, life lessons? A couple that I wish I’d learned earlier on – try not to care so much what other people think – I know it’s hard but believe in yourself and make yourself happy first. You are living for yourself, not anyone else!!!
And also – life is too short – don’t sweat the small stuff!!!
Happy Birthday little Gabrielle! The photo of her and dad and the tower behind is priceless.
Do Whatever Your Passion Is and Make the World a Better Place
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
Life Lesson: “You’re not just a princess.. You are a Queen!”
Gabrielle… never let anyone define who you are. Look inward and always be true to who you know you are in your heart.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
Go after your DREAMS!
ALWAYS put FAMILY first!
BE yourself!
Rejoice in the PRESENT!
IMAGINE the possibilities!
Educate yourself through school & EXPERIENCE!

Happy First Birthday!
Beautiful photos of an unforgettable time.
Life Lesson:
U+Ctrl+U
You already have everything you need in life – and the power to control how you observe and react to it.
Best,
Wendy
Such AMAZING pictures. Just breathtaking. Happy Birthday to your sweet girl! My advice to her would be to never settle … in life, in love, in her career, in anything. You CAN have it all.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! A lesson I’ve learned from my mother is to challenge yourself everyday! It’s what keeps us growing!
Gabrielle, Happy Birthday!
Always to remember to Love, everything and everyone that surrounds you.
Love your family…they will ALWAYS be there for you!
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! My piece of advice is one given to me by a former coworker. “never let anyone live in your head rent free”. Nobody and nothin is worth stressing over!
Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter, Gabrielle!
Teach her that there is nothing she can’t handle. Simple words that will shape her life.
Happy Brithday Gabrielle!!
Gabrielle,
The harder you work, the luckier you get. Couple a great work ethic with choosing a career you are passionate about, and you will be a happy woman!
PS, when you are a bit older, I recommend “He’s Not That Into You” for a more mature life lesson. That book taught me A LOT!
Happy Birthday gorgeous Gabrielle!!!! Having grace and elegance is making sure those who are around you feel comfortable at all times.
Happy, HAPPY Birthday Gabrielle!!!
My life lesson…or gift…is the gift of believing. If you believe, anything can happen and nothing can ever hold you back….so think BIG!!!
)
What a fun giveaway! Your trip pictures are quite inspiring!
simple advice and a simple wish – be the best you! happy birthday gabrielle
WHat a beautiful idea, I enjoyed reading everyone’s advice… I would collect them for sure.
Generosity (you giving a treat away) promotes kindness in others!!
Thanks for sharing your life so willingly!
Gabrielle – I hope you grow to be as confident and self-assured as your Momma.
Jessica – Thank you for sharing a bit of your life with us in your blog. It takes courage to put yourself out there for the world to see. You inspire me with your fearless attitude and your ability to pack up Gabrielle and travel the world. The love you have for your daugher shines thru so brightly and is reflected in the bright, sunny face I see in the pictures you post.
I have absolutely NO fashion sense, LOL, so please save the gorgeous lipstick for someone who would relish wearing it!
p.s. I love how you’ve started posting the sources for your outfits – it’s fun to see the mix of new, old, thrifty, and designer.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle ![]()
Always remember that EVERYTHING happens for a reason!
Enjoy the ride, dear Gabrielle. Good and bad will happen and it will all pass so quickly. Enjoy the ride!
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!!
My life lesson is simple but so true… Live your best life possible.
Alittle later in life lesson but one I’m trying to help my 15 year old daughter with. Boys will come and go but a best friend will be there forever. My best friend and I have been friends since the 4th grade. We are 40 now.
i live by the philosophy that time always marches on regardless of what we may be going through right now – don’t dwell in negativity.
so, even if you are having a terrible day – tomorrow is another day to start fresh. ![]()
what a great way to spend a first birthday. It reminds me of this story from Gweneth Paltrow when she was 10 – her dad took her to Paris for the weekend alone… “On the plane back to London he asked me if I knew why we had gone, just he and I, to Paris for the weekend. I said no, but I felt so lucky for the trip. He said, “I wanted you to see Paris for the first time with a man who would always love you, no matter what.”
What a terrific gift you’ve given Gabrielle on her 1st of many birthdays.
Happy Birthday sweet one!
My advice is to live every day being compassionate to others. Everyone you encounter every day is going through “something” and may not always behave their best. Treat everything and everyone with compassion.
And, the two things that will get you through life are strength and grace.
Always surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Happy Birthday sweetie
Trust – Love – Respect…
If you can give and receive these three treasures in life, you will be a very happy little girl.
With the example of your parents and their correction and praise, you will learn these attributes well.
REMEMBER: There isn’t anyone in this whole
world who loves your more than your parents. You may not always believe this but it is true.
Happy Sweet First Birthday!
~Dear Gabrielle~
~Happy 1st Birthday petite dear~
I hope you walk through life with your head held high; that you allow your mind to expand like the sky.
When the downsides occur, I hope that you search for the upsides; soar like a bird Gabrielle, do not hide.
~I raise a toast to you in good cheer~

Happy Birthday! Gabrielle, my dad always told me you can marry more money in five minutes than you can make in a lifetime~ cheers
What a great way to spend a first birthday!
My advice would be to never let anyone put you second in their life. You deserve to be put first, and don’t let anyone ever change that.
My advice is something I have always lived by, instilled in me by my mother and I am doing my best to pass it on to my two daughters:
You can do ANYTHING you want to – if someone else has done it that means you can too! And if no one has, then be the first!
Happy Birthday Gabrielle and Mom (you deserve to celebrate too!)
Embrace all that life has to offer..be true to who you are..don’t worry about what other people think of you (that last one is hard I know)
Happy Birthday, Gabrielle! What a wonderful way to celebrate in one of my favorite cities!!

Ohlala! A first birthday celebration in Paris! What could be more magical? May all your wishes come true, sweet Gabrielle. Dr. Seuss said it best, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is Youer than You!” And don’t you forget it! Happy Birthday!!
Love,
Cole and Ruby

Remember to find a man who will love you more than you love him.
My advice would be some we were given upon the the birth of our first child: Enjoy each stage of life. Each seems to have its pluses and minuses, but they all go by far too quickly!
Happy Birthday sweet precious lil’ girl! ![]()
my advice….follow your heart, do not let others tell you how to get there for only you will know the path best for you
I’ve never posted before but I had to wish Gabrielle a happy 1st birthday! My life lesson would be to choose to be kind to everyone, even if they don’t “deserve” it.
happy birthday.
“life is beautiful. soak it up. the good and bad.”
Happy Birthday! My little girl will be three a month from tomorrow. As a former teacher, I hope Gabrielle celebrates a love of books. It will take her far.
Happy birthday, Gabrielle! Life lesson: Love yourself as much as you love others in your life, always listen to your heart and and when faced with something difficult take the advice you would give someone you love.

Love the way Mamma matched her lipstick to your dress to Dadda’s shirt. Very tasteful and crafty.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!

Happy Birthday Sweet Gabrielle
Life Lesson: once you discover your passion in life go for it. Making a living of what you love is the best treat in life. xoxoxo
What a delightful and generous way to celebrate her birthday! The pictures are adorable!
Advice? Be yourself and make friends who are “themselves” as well…they will be true friends!
Happy, happy birthday gorgeous Gabrielle!!! Can’t wait to see you again!
The ignorant neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive, but do not forget.
Happy birthday, Gabrielle! What a life you are having already! From one birthday girl to another (I turn 40 on Monday!):
Laugh every day. It will change your life and keep you young.
happy gabrielle day!!
life lesson: be happy for yourself, not for anyone else’s reasons.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! It feels like you just had her!
I’m not going to quote anyone or anything famous. This is something I’ve learned and must tell myself on a somewhat regular basis:
“Stop complaining and do something about it”
Life is too short. Cheers to all of life’s lessons!
Happy Birthday, Gabrielle! (My little Charlie will be one on March 25th!)
Life lesson: Stay close to your parents, listen to them, love them, respect them. They will help you along your way!
This one comes from my Mom. Always look people in the eye and say Hello. It is the polite thing to do and that one little thing will get you farther than you think!
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! My life lesson is something my mom borrowed from Maya Angelou–when people show you who they really are, believe them.
I would just advise Gabrielle to remember “this too shall pass,” when things are tough!
Happy Birthday!
oh happy birthday gabrielle!!!
My life lesson for you miss gabrielle is to
figure out what you truly love to do..what really makes you happy and DO IT.. so you can live each day with Passion… YOUR PASSION…which will truly bring you a sense of purpose and fulfillment in your life…as a mom all I want for my children is for them to be happy and if each one of them could just find their passion and live it…they’ll find that happiness/success I so want them All to have!
Happy birthday, Gabrielle!
Be kind and work hard.
Happy Birthday, Gabrielle!
Since my son turned one on February 16th, it has been fun to watch you, him and your niece Anna grow this past year (if only through your momma’s and aunt’s blogs. So amazing how fast a year flies by… So fun to see how you are all turning into the sweet little persons, although I really enjoyed Morrisons baby stage.
I see a lot of great advice has been given already. It may not be a life lesson for everyone, but I do love this one:
You can’t have everything.
Where would you put it?
Sorry, I should do better, but that’s the only thing I can think of at the moment. It is half past 11 in the Netherlands and way past my bedtime ![]()
Have a great time traveling Europe!

Don’t know if internationals can enter, but I thought I’d give Gabrielle a piece of advice anyway…
“Love like you’ve never been hurt.”
Happy birthday Gabrielle! Jessica I have loved seeing her grow up this past year. She is obviously a happy and well-loved little girl. Here’s to many more!
Happy birthday to a beautiful baby girl! Jessica, you are so sweet to share your celebration with all of us. My advice for Gabrielle will be more meaningful when she is older. It’s to never let age define what you can and cannot do.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
My little man had his first birthday earlier this month.
My favorite life lesson is from my mother: “You can have it all, just not all at once.”
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
My little man had his first birthday earlier this month.
My favorite life lesson is from my mother: “You can have it all, just not all at once.”
Thank you for sharing this past year with us Gabrielle! Wishing you all great things!
My advice is a bit long but priceless:
If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it.
If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.
If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place…
Sweet little Gabrielle! I can’t believe that she’s a year old already! I hope it’s a marvelous day for you, sweet pea.
My favorite life lesson came from my grandmother Blanche, who always said, in good things and bad, “This too shall pass.” And she is absolutely right. Sometimes that’s all I have to cling to.
“Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.”

Happy 1st birthday, Gabrielle!
Joyeux Anniversaire Gabrielle! These words of my Father’s I have learned to live by…they apply to many situations…
“Don’t look at the forest…focus on one tree at a time.”
eeee! Happy birthday wee bebe!
eeee! Chanel!
A life lesson I have recently heard and loved — never make someone else a priority in your life when you are only an option in theirs. Wise words to live by.
joyeux anniversaire!!!
Pretty is, is pretty does.
Happy Day!
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! Always treat your Mama with love + respect. One day you may have the good fortune of being a Mama.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
Here is my life lesson for you:
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” — Dr. Seuss
Your true friends will love you no matter what.
Best Wishes!!
hmmmm…life lesson…”never be afraid to walk away from people who are negative influences on your life…”
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! Never, ever sweat the small stuff. Compared to the Earth – it is all small.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle! A Life Lesson in dealing with those around you regarding your life….. Those that mind don’t matter, those that matter don’t mind.
Buon compleanno Gabrielle!!!
…be kind and open minded towards others. There is so much one can learn from simply being kind to the person standing in front of you getting coffee or learning something new that might seem scary at first. Remembering these small things can change how we view the world around us….
And travel. Lots of travel!
Jessica, you are so kind to celebrate Gabrielle’s birthday with a gift to your readers! Gabrielle, happy first birthday. Always be true to yourself!
Happy 1st birthday! How magical to have her special birthday in the most beautiful city in the world.
One thing I’m trying to instill in my two young daughters is that they don’t have to like everyone, but they do need to be kind. Which I guess is the ole ‘do unto others..’
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
This is my favorite saying – “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” — Dr. Seuss
Your true friends will love you no matter what.
Happy Birthday beautiful girl!
Always be kind. No matter what. It’s always worth it.
Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
Here is my life lesson for you:
“If someone from the future travels back in time to tell you that your lifelong dream will fail 100%, and you still go for it anyway, it will work.”
Best wishes.
Happy Birthday little Miss Gabrielle!

Happy Birthday Gabrielle!
“Be exactly who you are without fear of failure”
Happy birthday, Gabrielle!
Nothing is more important in life than the pleasure of the moment.
Focusing on the goal ahead, on moving forward, on achieving – may take away the precious pleasure of the moment.
So, move forward, excel, achieve all your goals – but never lose focus of the precious moments in your life.
Happy, happy birthday Gabrielle!
Life lesson: “be true, be true, be true.”
This is something I read on Donna Downey’s blog and it really struck a chord. “Don’t be afraid to try and fail, be afraid not to.”
Never let a day go by without saying “I Love You” to those you love and care about. Only 3 words–but so powerful..

These are a few of my favorite British-originated things: 1. Habitat 2. Cheddar cheese 3. The Beatles 4. Christopher Bailey of Burberry 5. London Taxis 6. Net-A-Porter 7. Land Rover 8. Stella McCartney 9. Cadbury Mini Eggs

Burberry is a fav of mine! cool list!
I had forgotten that Cadbury was British! I love those things. I was actually introduced to them by a dietician I work with. Go figure? She is addicted worse than me. She buys them in bulk at Easter and then freezes them so she has them throughout the year
I love reading your updates, I’ll be in England in a few weeks so I’m taking notes from my favorite travel books and your blog.
When I lived in England, I always enjoyed visiting Habitat. thanks for the reminder.
fun collage…little bit of everything
I’m with you on the Land Rover!
Hello London! After a long night of flying on Virgin Atlantic (but rather comfortable and quite uneventful!), we arrived in London yesterday! Before our overseas flights, we met Jeffrey in Washington DC at Dulles (my new favorite airport). They have one the best commercial types I've seen and great accents of orange. Before departure, we…

I am truly enjoying living vicariously through you right now! ![]()
Marie Chantal is a fav of mine too, GORGEOUS! Enjoy London!!!
In Australia we call the children’s drink a “baby cino” and it is usually served with a couple of marshmallows on the side. My kids were really put out when we arrived in london a few years ago only to find they had never heard of such a thing. Glad they have worked it out now!
lovely captures.
great captures jessica…those shoes are so so cute….and the kids dessert menu..how cool is that? love the pic of you and gabrielle in the plane
Melanie,
I was bummed because during my last Muji visit, I picked up these http://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?V=1&Sec=18&Sub=78&PID=923 but you can’t squeeze them, so it’s almost impossible to get anything out of them. For that reason, I was happy to pick up a couple of these this time http://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?V=1&Sec=18&Sub=78&PID=2299
I also love these travel pouches http://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?V=1&Sec=18&Sub=79&PID=2284 and use them inside Gabrielle’s travel/diaper bag.
Cheers!

I can’t wait for MUJI when I go to China! What else did you find there?
Enjoy your travels… exploring new places is such a treat!
I love the politeness of signs in Europe.

I hope that you have a wonderful time overseas! Gabrielle is going to have the most interesting first birthday next week! What a way to celebrate!
love IT!!!!!!!!!..perfect for your trip..looks very parisienne CHIC..the blond hair flat ironed and angled cut looks very stylish
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your blog before, but I have to say I love your hair. Makes me wish mine was that straight. I’ve been cursed with kinky, curly hair so I envy you ![]()
I’m also curious what kind of bag/purse you’re holding in the photo. It looks adorable!
Thanks,
Tracy
Jess, I agree with Marit in terms of the designer/brand. I have a wishlist set up in Evernote for that reason!
You look sexy girl!
Your new/old do is very very flattering to you! I like it very much!
One Question: is it poossible to add the designer/brand again in your today’s style photo. You did this sometimes in the past and i’m often curious about it now. Thanks and merry greetings from Germany
Marit
love love your haircut
my hubby hates me with bangs so when he is deployed I get to play, funky fringe!
Jess, it looked great then and it looks great now! ![]()
Did you go with the J.Crew coloring that you talked about a while back? It doesn’t look like it, but it’s hard to tell in this photo. Just curious.
You’re too cute!

I am trying an all-new packing strategy (same packing style) for our upcoming trip over the Atlantic on Friday. I've picked a palette of black, gray, cream, and white and put together multiple options with different shoes, coats and accessories. The idea is that I'll get more wear out of the things I am packing…

Hi Kristina,
Thanks for visiting! The hightops are quilted Chuck Taylor’s. I got them at Finish Line – and right now they’re on sale for $19.98. Yowza!
http://www.finishline.com/store/catalog/product.jsp?productId=prod642454&CONVERSE=&sourceid=affiliate&cid=k123384&lid=j5617196k123384
I love that hightops can bring a punk edge to any outfit. I really like them with rolled jeans or leggings. Here’s the last time I wore those shoes http://www.jessicamcdougall.com/photos/todays_fashion_choice/photo-11-4.html
Here’s an idea for a cute, casual look – this would be fun with some linen hightops!

Love the “color palette” packing strategy! I know this is an old post, but I am a new reader, so just in case you still answer comments for previous posts…
I was admiring your quilted (Lanvin?) high tops and wondering how you like to wear them? I have seen so many great high top sneakers this year, but haven’t bought a pair because I’m not quite sure how to make them look more chic and less gym shoe. I’d love to hear your ideas!
I’m hoping you might share a few more travel tips. Do you pack a neck pillow, blanket, etc.? I find it’s hard to cram that stuff and a book/magazines on the plane. I would love some advice for how you pack or organize your carry-on.
Thanks for the response Jessica. I only asked because I normally bring about 3-4 pairs of shoes for any length of trip, which is limiting fashion-wise. I’m going to have to show this photo to the hubby so that I can bring more! And perhaps get a larger suitcase. Ha! Safe travels to you.
Wow, what a great collection of neutral colored shoes!
Hi Jessica,
Big fan. I was wondering where you got those great black flats pictured?
Hi Alison,
I had to go back to the picture and count to realize that are indeed 10! I was able to get those shoes and 14 different hanging outfits into my one suitcase. I’ll put my toiletries into one of the bags we have now added to the travel mix for Gabrielle!
Lugging it around isn’t bad. We go from home to airport curb – then destination airport to hotel. And it’s worth it to have options when we arrive. (It also helps to have organization, wheels, carts, bellman, an extra hand of an au pair, and a boyfriend that doesn’t mind the load. (He actually encourages it!)
Thanks for visiting!
Jessica
My only question is this, do you really bring 10 pairs of shoes with you when you travel??? How do you lug it all around?
Jessica – I do love it! I was able to read my horoscope (cancer) from your snap-shot and it also fits. I have a job interview the end of this month!
so looking forward to the captures of your journey…have as safe trip jessica
What a great idea….love your cute shoes! Have a great trip!
Have a wonderful trip! Can’t wait to hear about it! xo
My mom says this is the only way to pack. It’s so smart too! I’m just too indecisive when I pack. Let us know what you think. I might have to reconsider and give this a shot.
Happy traveling!
Super cute. Delightful styling.

Linda – Thank you so much. What a pleasure to be an inspiration to your girls!

Hi Cathy – Sure, here is today’s outfit with a “handbag.” (I put it in quotes because my handbags have taken on a new purpose of baby bag – so I tend to choose larger bags that can hold the baby essentials.)

Hi Jessica,
Although I’m *way* older than you (41, LOL), I often visit your “click here for today’s style” for fashion ideas. I especially like the casual outfits, since I don’t dress up very often.
I have a favor/suggestion – if possible, can you pose with a handbag? It would really help me to put an outfit together.
Thanks!
I would love to know your picks for great trench coats at different price points. I’m wanting to get one but not sure wear to start looking and what I should spend on this classic item.
Thanks
Love the last pic
hehe
Dear Jessica,
As the mother of six daughters. I often view young women on the junior high, high school, and college campuses and wonder…did you look in the mirror before you left your room this morning? Having now confessed to having this judgemental thought…I want to thank you from the bottom of this Mom’s heart for serving as a fashion guru for my daughters.

I've wanted to make fresh pesto for some time. I can now cross it off my list. And it turned out wonderful! (Special thanks to a simple basil pesto recipe and my friend, Cusinart!) I served it with sliced (poached) chicken and some Cipriani pasta. Jeffrey and I had a good laugh because as we…

Very positive blog! I’m really impressed
haha, you are cute!
yumm jessica…that orange is so pretty..I’ve made the pesto chicken pizza before with pine nuts and its really good!
FYI – a lot of people are allergic to pine nuts, so when I have made pesto for a party, I’ve made it with blanched almonds instead…it works well. I wish I was there to eat one of your sandwiches!
Tell Jeffrey we still have that sandwich in Seattle but they did something to it when they changed up their menu and it’s not nearly as good. I’m sure yours is much, much better.
Try the pesto on the little pizzas we used to make topped with mozarella and chicken. Yum!
I registered for a Cuisinart food processor just to be able to make pesto.
..and I hear you on the orange.
I'll be having my hair extensions removed before our trip to Europe later this month and I'm considering the color in these shots (from J.Crew Collection's latest look book) as my next hair move. Referencing my childhood hair color, I believe I may have found the perfect color for me.

I was just flipping through the catalogue thinking how great the j crew girls’ hair color looks! So fresh, love!
how about a dash of red? my colorist just threw a little into my hair cocktail this visit and i love it. you could pull that off for sure. can’t wait to see.
I agree…I think that color will look great!
Yes, do it Jessica it will look so natural a fresh…can’t wait to see it!!!
I really like the color. I think it will make you look very sophisticated.
Yes, definitely. I have always thought you would be a beautiful brunette…I know this is a baby step, but I think once you go this route, you will only want to go darker. Do it!!!
I love it. Do it!
Loved Portland's Ace Hotel in the Pearl District. Ali and I were a little unsure when we arrived to offsite parking and no bellman to help us – with two cars full of luggage and three kids, but we decided to rough it out and make it work. So many chic little details that make…

We’ll be in Portland over Easter weekend, and look forward to eating breakfast at Kenny and Zuke’s.
Are there any other kid-friendly restaurants that you would recommend?
Thanks!
Hi Laurie,
The crackers and cheese were tasty. I believe the fruit was some kind of currant paste/jelly. I passed on that! Interesting to note that it looks like very little food, but I’m guessing that’s a suggested dinner serving size!
Thanks for visiting!
Jessica
oh that fruit/cheese/bread tray didn’t look very good, was it tasty? i didn’t see any fruit… ?
love the pics!

Patti - Welcome back!!
Love the beauty in your photos Jessica:)
Beth - Welcome home! I’ve been a quiet reader of your blog for quite some time. But, these latest posts about your sweet girl’s first birthday and your big adventure to Europe have made feel a bit like we’re kindred spirits. It’s so obvious how very smitten you are with Gabriella, and I, as the mom of an almost 8-month-old, am so crazy in love with my daughter too. I had no idea how much I would love her, and I feel overwhelmed by the strength of those feelings sometimes. I feel like maybe you can relate. Happy Easter!
robin - glad your home safe..and I TRULY loved each and every post from your trip…made my day..inspiring and uplifing..thanks jessica
Erin Huber - LOVED looking at all your pics! Paris is soooo much better than a birthday party. So glad your back and can’t wait ’til our visit tomorrow!
jessica - Hi Tina!
Thanks for the question. Yes, I LOVE motherhood – but for now, one child is good for me!
Cheers,
Jessica
Tina Johnson - I love the picture of Gabrielle sitting on the grass it’s so cute. It would be perfect for a postcard something along the lines of “relax and touch your toes it’s good for you.” I hope you don’t mind the question, but now that you have experienced motherhood for the first time, do you want to have any more children?
Fleurishing - Bienvenue! I just love living vicariously through your posts…you had such a fabulous trip! Let me know if you guys will be in Philly anytime soon…
Suzette - I loved your Paris photos so much! Welcome back to Charlotte!
