Oh, Gabrielle – you delight me daily! You're so interested in books. And you're totally on the move now. I love how Making it Lovely has taken a picture of her daughter every month since birth in their Eames rocker. I wish I would have thought to do that with Gabrielle!

I'm looking forward to the upcoming concerts Jeffrey and I will be attending. On the schedule so far is James Taylor and Carole King for their Trubadour Reunion, Hall & Oates, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Lady Gaga. I so love going to concerts. And there isn't one I can remember attending that I…

Pretty jealous about the James Taylor concert, we just barely missed him in Portland on the 8th of May. Enjoy all your nights out! Sounds like a lot of fun to come!
do you have a favorite concert of all the ones you’ve seen? a favorite venue? usually for me, the smaller and more intimate, the better.
i saw Dave Matthews last night, front row in Hartford CT, amazing. just amazing.
I’ve always wanted to see hall and Oates live…kind of strangely, they are pretty cheesy… Have fun though!
Jessica – Lady Gaga is amazing in concert. I can’t wait to see her next time she comes to Atlanta and I’m considering seeing her in Vegas this summer. Have a blast!
Love that floor mess crafts can turn into something pretty! Like this sweet and simple wrapped gift. The finished product reminded me of Dolce & Gabana's Fall 2010 Ready To Wear. And incorporated my idea of tucking the gift card right into the wrapping paper. (I detached the ruler and blade from my Fiskars paper…

Jessica
Those alphabet stamps are so much nicer than most I have seen! Do you remember where you found them?
Hi Kelsey!
Thanks! The 5-13-10 dress was found at MUJI in London. It’s likely they also have it at their stores in NYC. I haven’t been able to find it online – they have a limited offering of their clothing items in their online store http://www.muji.us/store/
Cheers!
Jessica
Love the wrapping!
PS- Where can I find the grey dress you are wearing on 5-13?
so cute!
Ok that is officially one of the coolest gift wraps I’ve ever seen. Awesome!
Sweet idea! Love the slit/card treatment.
Such a sweet and creative idea!
LOVE that it was inspired by fashion!
took me a second to “get” that it was tucked in. how cool!
On a phone call yesterday, my Dad reminded me to "relish in the simple pleasures of life." Amen. Thanks Dad.

Here's a little photographic update about my recent (domestic) delights: 1. Our friends Bill and Georgia shared fresh and wonderfully fragrant basil from their garden with me. What a splendid gift to receive! 2. Gabrielle picked up the pen with her left hand. I'm a lefty, so of course that made me smile! 3. Tasty…

BLACK fingerpaint. You ARE a fun Mom!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and I'm daydreaming of sitting out in the garden having an ice cold lemonade with a friend on this bench.

Love the hat…Gabrielle has so many opportunities in her life to learn and travel. I’m happy for her. Love, Gramma Pati
Gabrielle, my hope for you: May you look like America’s next top model in your lab coat while solving the world’s condensed matter nuclear science equation (cold fusion).
Only 14 months old, and she already can work a hat! “America’s Next Top Model” for the year 2027 ?
she’s got my vote!
Whether you're a local or planning a visit to Charlotte in the future, it's great to have an insider's guide to where to eat, shop, and visit. (My last trip to Portland and San Francisco I had an incredible list of handpicked places to visit and it made a world of difference!) The Charlotte Magazine…

Thanks!!! Actually coming there for my 1st visit next week for my cousin’s HS graduation. Perfect timing. BTW, love the blog. Your little girl is the cutest.
Can’t wait to see it for ourselves!
Thanks for sharing! I look forward to the possibility of exploring some of these on future trips to the Charlotte area, and can’t wait to share the list with my friends in that area, too. =)
Jess, I would really love to hear about your best’s for San Francisco. My daughter and I are visiting there for a wedding and then spending a week to explore – I have been there a couple of times but always with someone that knew the city. We are arriving from Melbourne, Australia.
just downloaded,,,so many places I’ve never heard of as well as those I have but haven’t gone to..can’t wait to do some exploring this summer..thank you!
Trying more pizza in Charlotte. This time it was Hawthorne's New York PIzza and Bar. We've been there many times and keep going back. Fresh green salad. And my favorite item on the menu – homemade potato chips!

Great post! Return to us soon! And bring the camera
What do you shoot with?
I’m not a foodie but your pictures make me want to become one!
yummy…will have to check this place out..thanks jessica
noticed Jeffrey’s Flyers shirt in your last post…it was an amazing game/comeback tonight, he must be thrilled.
We keep going back to Hawthorne’s too! However, I think Pietown might be better. I haven’t tried the homemade potato chips yet though!
It was a beautiful Mother's Day here in Charlotte. All day I was thinking of my mom and her mom and how I grateful I am to now be a mom. The magnolias are in bloom here. And they are incredible. There is a new Chinese restaurant just down the street from us. These two…

that second magnolia pic is so so pretty…and always love seeing captures of Jeffrey with Gabrielle
mmmm now I want Chinese food. And I had Thai yesterday! Happy Mothers Day to you.
those magnolias are beautiful! i wish they were easier to find. it’s so hard to come across a flower store that carries them. (plus, they smell so good!)
looks fun. I loved your fortune! We will have to try that restaurant. I love it when you mention local places…I always add them to my “to do” list.
Happy Mother’s Day Jess! Looks like you had the perfect day!
So glad you enjoyed a special day with your two favorite people. You are a super Mom Jessica. Here’s to you!
I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
Since several of you have asked, here are a few of my current not-so-secret stay slim secrets: EAT COLORFULLY. There are so many amazing and delicious fruits and vegetables. And the colors will make you happy. (This is a turkey minestrone soup I made for Gabrielle – and got to enjoy myself!) Go to the…

Thanks for catching that!

Maybe the key to moderation really is keeping candy in the “panty” I don’t think I would want to eat it either if I kept it in my unmentionables all day! Just teasing, great post. I just got a chuckle over the “typo”
Hi Jessica,
I love your blog…..I know your sister Ali from the scrapbooking world and when we met she said I reminded her a lot of you….what a compliment….Anyway….I was wondering if you would share that soup recipe? It looks delicious. I’m trying to cut meat out of my families diet as much as I can and this looks amazing!!! Thanks in advance.
Natalie Tran
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing these very inspirational ideas…
WOW! – no need to say more! (;
great tips! i think a positive energy can definitely impact your weight too- it’s difficult to want to go for a run or to eat healthy when you are moping about! being positive seems to make everything more managable, including your health
these are great suggestions and all work well for me. love the photos!
Oh Jessica, thank you for this, you are a young but wise person!
Wishing you all the best!
Marit
Any other healthy meal options you can share? I’m not a fan of sprouts or turkey lunch meat.
I am with you on the water… it’s all I drink all day! When I eat out, I usually opt for iced tea to change it up.
Yes Yes Yes to all of that, so beautifully put and such great pictures to accompany!
you definitely have it right!
btw, your turkey sandwich looks AMAZING!
I’ve always wondered how you stayed so slim while enjoying all those lovely meals but I think the portions are usually smaller, the foods are rarely processed, and you do seem to stay active. Thanks for sharing your pearls of wisdom!
oh this was great…this is why I love your blog so very much..you answer questions from your readers which is so thoughtful…another wonderful post! full of personal tips which are inspiring..thank you!
Thank you for this post. It was very helpful.
Love it! This was super inspirational since I am trying to talk myself in getting off the computer and onto the treadmill!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Great post and congrats on continuing past one year of nursing!
Thanks for the great ideas and inspiring photos!
It’s all about balance and you’ve got it down to a t! I try to fill-up on vegetables and protein but do have a weakness for carbs. And I should drink more water. My mother gives me the tisk, tisk look whenever she sees me drinking a soda.
Gabrielle is loving this Charley Harper puzzle that features delightful illustrations of animals and insects from his 1961 Golden Book of Biology. I am a HUGE Charley Harper fan… he was the best! A friend gifted me a calendar of his work to enjoy all throughout 2009 and it made me so very happy.
We have a couple of the books that we got at Old Navy when they were on sale there. Totally ordering that puzzle right now.
Little Gabrielle made her move this weekend! We've been thinking this was going to happen any minute for the past couple months – but I love that she did it when SHE was ready and I have enjoyed every minute of her "sitting" stage.

That is sweet!
LOVE this! How wonderful those tiny moments can be! Congratulations little Gabrielle!
Yay Gabrielle!!!
I love how excited Daddy is! Mom and Dad, batten down the hatches!
That usually means walking is close at hand!! I know so many babies that actually walked before they decided to really crawl.
yipee! is that jeffrey’s voice? his exuberance put a smile on my face!
So cool. She looked so confident, I just know she will keep that same expression with all she does in life. Hip hip hooray!
oh a BIG YEAH from me as well!
I love hearing Jeffrey’s excitement! Way to go, Gabrielle! My little guy walked for the first time yesterday and I have a similar video where my excited voice almost steals the show!
Awesome! Go Gabrielle!
But I have to say from experience… sometimes you wish they were still at that sitting stage ![]()
I found my little man (almost 15mo.) this week on the 10th step of the stairs… Boy, oh boy!
