Little chef makes cake pops.

Not many days go by without Gabrielle asking, “Can we bake something?” She’s discovered that tasting as the baking process progresses is a big highlight! I let her pour the measured ingredients into the bowls and do some of the stirring. She really wants to do the eggs all by herself, so we’re working on…

Erin - Frances said, “Can Gabrielle make one for me? Those are my favorite!” :)

lee - I think it’s so wonderful that you and she bake together. I have great memories of being in the kitchen with my mom while growing up, and I firmly believe that those early experiences planted the seed for my adult self’s love for cooking and baking. =)

Susan - Adorable, and so sweet she is in your apron!

Maki Taco.

We have a tendency of frequenting the same core of about ten restaurants here in Charlotte, North Carolina. But I love to try new food. Especially fresh and natural! I picked up this goodness from Maki Taco, a Charlotte food truck with a Pan Asian influence. (You can follow them on Facebook to see their…

lee - While flying on Thursday, I saw an article in US Airways’ magazine about food trucks – including one in Charlotte (Roots) with fare like heirloom tomato sandwiches with black-pepper aioli or prosciutto and parmesan mac and cheese. It made me wonder if you’d heard of it or tried their grub. =)

Liz - Hallo! I’m booking my flight to Charlotte. Those are right up my flavor alley!

The Frat Pack + Me - I have seen their truck in my neighborhood. I think they cater too!

The French are phat.

If you want to know why French Women Don’t Get Fat and use some of that knowledge in your own quest for great health, my suggestion is to forgo reading the book, and spend a little time in France! Here are a few things I discovered they do there that I wish we did (or…

Jen - I loved this post. I’ve been trying to live a healthier lifestyle in the last year or so…. switching to organics whenever I can (they are a bit more expensive though), more excercise (zumba and weight training), smaller portion sizes (totally agree with the huge PLATTERS they serve at restaurants. I’d prefer a smaller dish with better flavor), go shopping for fresh groceries everyday (I try to do this as much as I can), cook my own food instead of box or frozen meals. I’ve learned that I can’t go back to preservative-filled foods. It just tastes blah to me now. So much more flavor in real foods. One food that comes to mind is real lemonade. I make my own lemonade with a simple sugar and it’s so much better than the lemonades they serve at most restaurants. It’s from their soda machine. Yuck. The flavor doesn’t even taste lemony to me anymore.

Anyway, I just wanted to say how much I agree with what you wrote. This comment got a little winded. Sorry about that.

Rebekah - Cute post! :)

Sue - I agree with you, Jessica! I shop usually every other day for fresh food. The only things I buy in bulk are paper products and cleaning supplies. You can’t beat the taste of a freshly-made salad or stir-fry! And the colors of the different fruits and vegetables are so awesome together!

Bento!

I love packing Gabrielle’s lunch. It’s especially fun and easy with her PlanetBox lunchbox. I tried a couple other bento-style lunchboxes before this one – and have found this one to be the best. It is dishwasher safe and comes out perfect after each wash – without any rust areas or color change to the…

Jen - I love that. That’s seriously cool. Do they have an adult version of this? I would love to have something like instead of old tupperware in a bag. :)

Erin - Ooh! Totally taking notes for when I’ll be packing Frances’ lunch next year!

Ali - Loved this post. You should also check out Wendolina for ideas to put in the bento: http://wendolonia.com/blog/

Tammy - I love this! I need to do this for my kiddos. No waste, colorful food, this is great! Thanks for sharing.

The Frat Pack + Me - Can you make my lunch, please?

lee - What a great-looking bento box! It’s so neat to see the care and creativity you put into packing your daughter’s lunches. =)

What’s happening in our house.

Charlotte has had the craziest, all-across-the-board weather days lately. Chances of snow, followed by mid-60s, followed by rainy days (which I love). So we’ve been having all kinds of fun, indoor dance parties! And new discoveries in dress up. Ali shared with me a super simple chicken noodle recipe that I’ve been making each week….

Mary - Such a lovely girl! Do you mind me asking what noodles you’re using in the soup? They look much smaller than a typical egg noodle. Thx!

jessica - Suzette – Thank you!

The Frat Pack + Me - sweet post, Jessica!
